Currently, the facilities, equipment and infrastructure at Vinh airport have ensured the conditions for normal operations. Vinh airport is responsible for updating and notifying airlines, relevant agencies and units to coordinate implementation.

According to airport management, the initial damage area was only 40 square meters, however, after inspection and assessment, to ensure technical safety, the area must be expanded to 1,000 square meters and dug 2 layers deep. The incident happened suddenly so the damage has not yet been determined.

As reported by VietNamNet, on the morning of July 3, at Vinh airport, after 4 normal flights taking off and landing, when the Vinh - Ho Chi Minh City flight took off to the runway, a large section of the runway was discovered to be peeling and cracked. By around 10:30, Vinh airport could no longer handle incoming and outgoing flights.

The incident caused many flights to change schedules or cancel. Some airline flights to Vinh airport were forced to divert to land at the airport in Thanh Hoa .

According to initial assessment, the cause of the incident may be due to high temperature causing blistering and peeling of the asphalt concrete surface of the runway.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said that as soon as it discovered the damage to the runway and realized it could affect flight safety, Vinh airport issued a notice citing safety reasons and apologized to passengers so that they could be aware and proactive in their plans.

At the same time, the port notified the Aviation Information Center to temporarily close the runway from 10:50 a.m. on July 3.

The airport also urgently reported to the representative of the Northern Airport Authority at Vinh Airport to carry out temporary closure procedures for a period of 24 hours to carry out repairs to the runway according to regulations and mobilize the construction unit to immediately carry out patching and repair of damage to the runway.

The Northern Airports Authority has issued a decision to temporarily close Vinh airport due to the cracking and peeling of part of the asphalt concrete surface of the runway between 10:50 a.m. on July 3 and 10:50 a.m. on July 4.
