Durian prices today, July 3, range from 25,000 - 84,000 VND/kg. The bulk-bought variety has decreased sharply compared to the beginning of the year, while the beautiful variety still maintains a high price.

Durian price today

The domestic durian market on July 3 continued to witness a clear differentiation between the purchase prices of selected and bulk durians. According to a survey in three key regions - the Southwest, Southeast and Central Highlands, the price of bulk durians is fluctuating between 25,000 - 48,000 VND/kg, 30,000 - 90,000 VND/kg lower than at the beginning of 2025.

Specifically, in the Southwest and Southeast regions, the price of RI6 durian bought in bulk is only 25,000 - 28,000 VND/kg, while Thai durian bought in bulk fluctuates at 45,000 - 48,000 VND/kg. In the Central Highlands, the price is somewhat lower, with RI6 bought in bulk only reaching 25,000 - 28,000 VND/kg and Thai durian bought in bulk decreasing to 40,000 - 42,000 VND/kg.

The sharp drop in durian prices is believed to be due to key provinces entering the main harvest season, while exports to China face difficulties in quality control and growing area standards.

While durian prices have plummeted, selected varieties, especially Thai and RI6 varieties, have maintained high prices, reflecting stable demand from the high-end market and quality domestic consumption channels.

In the Southwest and Southeast regions, RI6 durian is purchased at 45,000 - 60,000 VND/kg, while Thai durian remains high at 76,000 - 84,000 VND/kg, unchanged from yesterday. In the Central Highlands, the price of RI6 durian remains at 44,000 - 46,000 VND/kg, while Thai durian reaches 80,000 - 82,000 VND/kg.

According to traders, although the export market is facing difficulties, the beautiful durian group is still favored by domestic distributors and supermarket chains - which have high requirements for size, design and quality of durian flesh.

Latest durian news

While Vietnam is facing challenges from the Chinese market, Malaysia has emerged as a formidable competitor thanks to its strategy of diversifying premium durian varieties.

According to the Malaysian Department of Agriculture , in addition to the long-standing famous Musang King variety, the country is actively promoting the Black Thorn, Red Prawn, Hajah Hasmah and Tekka varieties, targeting demanding markets such as China, Canada, the UK and Australia.

Notably, the MDUR 88 (D190) variety – a cross between D10 and D24 – has been branded as Mardi Super 88 and is being heavily promoted by the Malaysian government for export. In 2023, the country exported more than 54,000 tonnes of durians worth RM1.51 billion, of which China alone accounted for nearly 46%.

Not only focusing on output – expected to reach 568,852 tons in 2025, Malaysia also invests heavily in certification, agronomic evaluation and variety standardization, aiming to position itself as the “high-quality durian capital” of Asia.

The durian market picture on July 3 clearly reflects the challenges facing the industry. Durian prices in bulk have dropped sharply, mainly due to the pressure of increased supply in the main season and technical barriers in exports. Meanwhile, selected durian varieties still retain a certain appeal, thanks to stable domestic demand and the expanding high-end consumer segment.

At the regional level, Malaysia is growing strongly, not only in terms of output but also in terms of breeding strategy, quality and market expansion. This creates great competitive pressure on Vietnamese durian – which is still heavily dependent on the Chinese market.

To maintain their advantage, Vietnamese businesses need to increase investment in standard growing areas, diversify varieties, improve processing quality and gradually expand to new markets such as Japan, Korea, EU, etc. This effort not only helps stabilize durian prices, but also raises the brand value of Vietnamese fruits on the world agricultural map.
