Rice price today May 7, 2025 in export market
According to Reuters, rice prices in India and Thailand remained stable or slightly decreased last week due to slow consumption and abundant supply. specific, 5% broken rice from India was offered around 382 - 387 USD/ton, unchanged from last week, while 5% broken white rice also maintains the price of 375 - 381 USD/ton.
A trader in New Delhi said buyers were placing orders in small batches, knowing that supplies from exporting countries were plentiful. As of June 1, India had a stockpile of 59.5 million tonnes of rice (including paddy), more than four times the government's target for early July.
In Vietnam, according to the Vietnam Food Association, the price of 5% broken rice was offered at 382 USD/ton as of July 3, down slightly 1 USD/ton compared to last week.
The Thai market recorded a more pronounced decline, with 5% broken rice offered at $380 per tonne, down from $385-$390 per tonne last week. The main reason was the appreciation of the baht, which made Thai rice export prices less competitive while demand remained weak.
In Bangladesh, despite abundant domestic supplies, rice prices remain high due to rising production costs, inefficient supply chains and concerns about price manipulation, putting huge pressure on household amid rising living costs.
Meanwhile, Cambodia impressive recorded export results in the first half of 2025. According to Khmer Times, the country exported 387,070 tons of milled rice, earning about $283 million. The export market spans 63 countries, with the EU being the largest market with 182,885 tons, followed by China with 102,509 tons and ASEAN with 52,890 tons.
Notably, 75% of Cambodia's rice exports are fragrant rice – a high-value product. In addition, Cambodia also exported more than 3.17 million tons of paddy across the border, worth about 757 million USD.
