Nissan's Oppama plant in Yokosuka, Tokyo, currently employs about 3,900 workers. The facility was part of a restructuring plan for the struggling Japanese automaker.

However, the idea of producing Foxconn-branded electric vehicles on idled assembly lines here could help preserve jobs for workers as well as the supplier network.

Nissan is expected to post a net loss of 200 billion yen ($1.38 billion) in the second quarter of 2025 due to the impact of US tariff policies.

Nissan is facing difficulties due to declining sales in the US and China, leading to a net loss of 670.90 billion yen in the fiscal year 2024 (ending at the end of March 2025). Previously, the company did not announce a profit forecast for the current fiscal year.

Nissan has announced plans to close seven car factories and cut 20,000 jobs worldwide , and it is also reported that the company is planning to sell the building at its Yokohama headquarters to offset the costs.
