Pig price in Central Highlands

Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh , Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue maintain the level of 66,000 VND/kg.

Da Nang and Quang Ngai are stable at around 65,000 - 66,000 VND/kg.

Gia Lai continues to be the locality with the lowest price in the country at 64,000 VND/kg.

Southern pig price

The Southern region also recorded a sideways trend, with localities such as:

Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong, Tay Ninh, Can Tho, An Giang fluctuates from 67,000 - 68,000 VND/kg

Ca Mau and Dong Nai still maintain the price of 68,000 VND/kg, no sign of adjustment yet.

Traders say that this “inaction” is the result of large farms proactively holding onto their goods and surveying the market instead of selling off like at the beginning of the week. Meanwhile, slaughterhouses have also temporarily stopped buying in large quantities because consumption has not really improved significantly.

After a series of days of sharp price drops of 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg nationwide, the live hog market today recorded widespread stability - the first time in nearly a week. According to the latest price map, except for Quang Ninh, all remaining provinces and cities kept prices unchanged, showing that signs of a temporary slowdown in the decline have begun to appear.

Livestock experts believe that this stable state will likely only last for a few sessions. The fact that large farms are “holding their breath” waiting for signs of price recovery is an understandable reaction when the price level is approaching a threshold that causes profit margins to narrow.

In addition, pork consumption is expected to increase slightly at the weekend, serving festivals, family celebrations or preparing for the menu in the middle of the 7th lunar month. If demand increases slightly, many localities may adjust prices up by 500 - 1,000 VND/kg this weekend.

Data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment shows that the livestock industry has recorded positive signs in the first 6 months of the year. The total pig herd nationwide increased by 3.8% compared to the same period last year; the output of live pigs for slaughter reached nearly 2.7 million tons, up 5.9%. Some localities before the merger had impressive herd growth rates such as Gia Lai increased by 30%, Kon Tum increased by 20%, especially Tay Ninh increased by more than 48% thanks to a series of large-scale livestock projects coming into operation. This development shows that the livestock industry is gradually recovering strongly after a difficult period due to the epidemic.

The decrease in live pig prices has led to adjustments in retail prices at traditional markets. At Xom Moi market (Go Vap), young ribs are currently priced at VND180,000 per kilogram, old ribs at VND130,000, pork belly at VND150,000 and lean shoulder at VND125,000. However, Ms. Hanh, a trader there, said that purchasing power is still slow even though prices have dropped by VND5,000-10,000 per kilogram compared to last month.

"If the price of live pigs drops to 60,000 VND per kilogram, retail meat will truly be affordable for consumers," she said.

Experts believe that in the coming time, if supply remains stable and input factors do not fluctuate strongly, the price of live pigs can maintain the level of 58,000-62,000 VND per kg.
