Thanks to the advantage of having a large raw material area, Dong Nai has attracted many corporations and enterprises to invest in the fields of preservation, preliminary processing, and processing associated with the raw material area. Thanks to that, the export turnover of the above key industrial park products is among the top in the country.

Largest area in the country

With an area of over 438 thousand hectares, Binh Phuoc province (old) has the largest industrial cluster area in the country. Among them, some of the largest crops in the country are: rubber trees reaching nearly 245 thousand hectares, cashew trees nearly 150 thousand hectares. In addition, other industrial clusters have large areas such as: coffee nearly 14.3 thousand hectares, pepper nearly 11 thousand hectares.

According to the Project on Developing Key Industrial Clusters by 2030 in the old Binh Phuoc province, the province maintains and develops the area of 4 key industrial clusters: coffee, rubber, cashew, pepper with a total area of over 356 thousand hectares. Although the area of these crops has decreased sharply compared to present, the value has increased. The goal is to strive for the total export value of the province's 4 key industrial clusters to reach 450 million USD by 2030.

Dong Nai province is expanding the intercropping models of perennial industrial crops such as coffee - cashew, cocoa - cashew... These models, the crops complement each other, help reduce investment costs but productivity and profit increase many times compared to monoculture of cashew trees.

Dong Nai province (old) also has many advantages in developing long-term industrial parks with an area among the top in the country with nearly 93.2 thousand hectares. Of which, the area of rubber trees reaches 40 thousand hectares, cashew trees reach nearly 28 thousand hectares, pepper is about 10 thousand hectares, coffee is more than 6 thousand hectares...

Oriented to 2030, Dong Nai will continue to develop key industrial clusters including: rubber, cashew, coffee, pepper. The specific target by 2030 is to reduce to about 77.1 thousand hectares, a decrease of tens of thousands of hectares compared to the present, but the output will still be high thanks to the synchronous application of scientific and technological advances in production.

In order to increase the added value of key industrial zones in the coming time, Dong Nai province has just oriented to promote linkages in production areas according to large-scale value chains, associated with the development of processing industry, deep processing, product diversification and consumption markets.

Increase advantage in export market

In 2024, Vietnam will have 7 agricultural products/groups with export turnover of more than 3 billion USD, of which the industrial cluster sector has 3 products including: coffee 5.4 billion USD; cashew nuts nearly 4.4 billion USD; rubber nearly 3.5 billion USD. In addition, pepper products have officially returned to the "billion-dollar club" after many years of absence when reaching a turnover of 1.3 billion USD. The above industrial clusters will continue to be Vietnam's key export groups in the coming time.

As an industrial province, Dong Nai (old) has the advantage of attracting many corporations and enterprises to invest in deep processing and exporting key industrial park products. In 2024, the export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the province will reach 3.7 billion USD, an increase of 17% over the same period in 2023. Of which, the export turnover of coffee will reach nearly 912.7 million USD; cashew nuts will be over 510.9 million USD; rubber will be over 79.2 million USD; pepper will be nearly 72.9 million USD.

Accordingly, the rubber, coffee, cashew, and pepper industrial clusters are still the strong agricultural products in the list of 15 key national agricultural products. This is also the key crop group that Dong Nai province will focus on developing towards safe production, increasing export advantages to demanding markets.

According to the representative of Olam Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Bien Hoa 2 Industrial Park), the company is exporting about 40 thousand tons of cashews per year, including many demanding markets such as Europe, the United States, etc. The export market potential of this product is still very large, so the company is very interested in connecting with large-scale cashew production areas. The company has many policies to support farmers in building specialized cashew growing areas that meet safety standards and organic production areas because the standards of the export market are increasingly strict.

Binh Phuoc Province (old) attracted 10 cashew processing and exporting enterprises to join in association with 38 cooperatives (HTX), with an area of about 4,500 hectares, and an organic cashew chain of about 3,500 hectares. With pepper, the province also formed a chain of nearly 2,500 hectares.

Trang Co Bu Lach Organic Cashew Agricultural Cooperative (Tho Son commune) has 160 members, mainly ethnic minorities, with more than 1,700 hectares of cashew cultivation. The entire cashew cultivation area follows organic care procedures, and the products are purchased at a price 500-1,000 VND/kg higher than the average market price. Therefore, for 1 hectare of cashew, members are supported by the cooperative with 700,000 VND for gasoline and grass cutting. Thanks to the profit-sharing regime in cultivation, the organic cashew cultivation area of the cooperative members is constantly expanding.

Ms. Thi Khoi, Director of Trang Co Bu Lach Organic Cashew Agricultural Cooperative, shared: “Our cashew nuts are available in 34 countries around the world through direct cooperation with foreign partners. They come to the garden to collect water samples, soil samples, fruit samples, and leaves. Thanks to the application of organic farming methods, all indicators after analysis meet European standards. The merger of Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai into the new Dong Nai province will open up wider export opportunities, the value of cashew nuts of our ethnic minorities will be higher, and they will have a better economic life.”

Sharing the same view, Director of Bazan One Member Co., Ltd. (Phuoc Son Commune) Hoang Hong Tien commented that after the merger into the new Dong Nai province, there will be a large development space for processing and exporting cashew nuts thanks to the large number of Dong Nai enterprises. Hopefully, the cashew nut export market, as well as the cashew nut brand from the red basalt land called Dong Nai, will strongly expand to the world, bringing a prosperous and happy life to farmers.
