The Vietnam U21 women's volleyball team is currently on a four-match losing streak at the VTV Cup, including three group stage matches and one quarterfinal match against the Vietnam national team. Meanwhile, Sichuan, although not fielding their strongest squad, is still considered to be the better team. They have a squad of taller players with a higher average age.

However, with the enthusiastic cheers of home fans, the U21 Vietnam women's volleyball team had an exciting day. Right from the first minutes of set 1, they created a thrilling chase for each point.

Coach Nguyen Trong Linh's team gradually rose to lead 11-8, 14-10. The two hitters Dang Thi Hong and Pham Quynh Huong led the scoring to help U21 Vietnam win 25-17 in set 1.

Set 2 was the moment when the young girls' mettle was most evident. Sichuan took advantage of their height to find a way to tie the score. The Chinese representative was somewhat successful in creating a 5-2 gap. The girls of U21 Vietnam began to lose focus, making mistakes in many situations. In particular, the first step was still a difficult problem, significantly reducing their ability to attack.

Sichuan had a moment to lead 18-13 and was close to winning this set. However, the timely adjustments and consultations of coach Nguyen Trong Linh were brought into play at the right time. Along with that, the spirit of determination helped the U21 Vietnamese women's volleyball team play resiliently. From being left far behind, they gradually narrowed the gap and then made a spectacular comeback to win 25-22.

In set 3, the home team continued to start excitedly, leading 6-1. Even though the opponent equalized 6-6, U21 Vietnam was still not shaken and continued to win 25-20, ending the match quickly in just 3 sets.

This is a somewhat surprising but worthy result for the Vietnam U21 team. They will compete in the 5th place match of VTV Cup 2025 with Thailand U21.
