The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment said so when informing about solutions to promote durian exports in the last 6 months of the year.
The delegation from the General Administration of Customs of China is expected to conduct a field inspection in Vietnam from July 12 to 17. This is an opportunity for Vietnam to demonstrate its ability to control the quality of its durian export chain. At the same time, it affirms its commitment to comply with food safety standards of China - Vietnam's largest durian export market today.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, as of June 2025, Vietnam had 1,396 durian growing area codes and 188 durian facilities granted codes, qualified to export to China.
In order to strengthen the management of growing area codes and packaging facilities, the ministry has digitized all data on growing area codes and packaging facilities and operated a national traceability system.
The Ministry has been coordinated with a number of localities to conduct tests to minimize cadmium contamination in growing areas; establish cadmium distribution maps in key growing areas and provide early warning of areas at high risk of contamination.
In addition, the ministry has also completed a draft circular guiding the issuance and management of codes for growing areas and packaging facilities in a more rigorous and practical manner, and has widely consulted with departments and localities.
A quality control process at the durian packaging facility for export is also being completed, consulting with relevant parties for promulgation and application in the near future.
Regarding the testing of O-yellow and cadmium, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment said that there are currently 24 cadmium testing laboratories and 14 O-yellow testing laboratories recognized by the General Administration of Customs of China.
To meet the demand for cadmium and O-gold testing, the ministry has asked testing laboratories to increase testing capacity.
With the above solutions and market signals, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment forecasts that fresh durian exports are likely to recover from the third quarter of 2025, especially during the main crop season from August to October.
However, the recovery rate still depends largely on whether businesses and farmers can maintain food safety conditions as committed. If violations continue, the export risk for this industry will be very high.
"In addition, the export potential of frozen durian will continue to be a bright spot thanks to its stability and long-term preservation ability.
Currently, many businesses are ready to invest in modern processing lines and cold storage, meeting the standards of China and potential markets such as Korea, Japan, and the EU..." - The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment added.
Durian exports are gradually regaining growth momentum.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in recent months, Vietnam's durian exports have gradually recovered and regained growth momentum.
In the first 6 months of the year, we exported 5,217 batches of fresh durian with an output of nearly 130,000 tons.
However, for frozen durian, Vietnam exported 388 batches with an output of 14,282 tons, an increase of 310% over the same period in 2024.
Partly due to the signing of a protocol to export frozen durian to China in August 2024.
At the same time, under the timely direction and guidance of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and localities, deep processing and market expansion have reflected efforts to diversify products, reduce dependence on the fresh durian market and help businesses take advantage of good opportunities to export frozen durian.
