Cong Phuong and Binh Phuoc face difficulties: V-League promotion door not wide open

Cong Phuong alone can hardly carry the whole Binh Phuoc team.

However, Cong Phuong alone cannot help Binh Phuoc team to step up to V-League immediately. Last season, despite his best efforts, the former HAGL striker could only help this team win 1 play-off spot to compete for promotion with Da Nang Club, but unfortunately they still did not have enough strength to defeat the Han River team in the decisive match.

Therefore, before the 2025-2026 season, Binh Phuoc Club decided to say goodbye to a total of 13 members of the squad, including both players and coaching staff. The players who had to leave included Tran Phi Son, Tran Manh Hung, Nguyen Van Quy, Le Van Nam and Tong Anh Ty. Among them, Phi Son, Manh Hung and Anh Ty are all experienced names, having played for many years in the V-League.

Previously, this team also said goodbye to 8 other members of the first team, including 3 players Nguyen Minh Tam, Nguyen Tai Loc and Duong Van Trung, along with 5 experts and members of the coaching staff including assistant coach Ueno Nobuhiro, fitness coach Nguyen Ngoc An, goalkeeper coach Dang Dinh Duc, doctor Truong Van Nga and interpreter Hoang Nhat Hoang.

On the contrary, Binh Phuoc Club has also reached an agreement with Coach Nguyen Viet Thang to lead the team next season. In addition, to strengthen their squad, they are also preparing to announce a series of new contracts, including famous names such as Xuan Truong, Minh Vuong and Van Son (former teammates of Cong Phuong at HAGL). With these names, Binh Phuoc Club is aiming for the 2025-2026 season with the ambition of being promoted to the V-League.

However, ambition is one thing, but whether or not it can be realized is another. Because even with the addition of new players, Binh Phuoc Club will still face many difficulties because the above players are all past their prime, while young potential players are too rare. Moreover, next season's opponents such as PVF CAND, Binh Dinh and Bac Ninh are not easy to deal with. Even PVF CAND is a team that directly competes with them in the play-off race, while Binh Dinh is a V-League team that has just been relegated to the first division. Bac Ninh is a rookie team in the first division, but has great ambitions and invests heavily with the presence of former Vietnam national team coach Park Hang-seo.

Furthermore, in this year's first division, each team will be reinforced with 1 foreign player, so the teams will take advantage of their potential to bring in quality foreign players, in order to increase strength to realize the goal of promotion in the near future.

It seems that winning a place in V-League is not simple for Binh Phuoc Club.
