YouTube tightens censorship of poor quality AI content

YouTube will update its monetization policies on July 15, 2025, to prevent “mass-produced” and “repetitive” videos — especially content created with AI technology that lacks creativity or real-world value.

Specifically, “inauthentic” content will be removed from the YouTube Partner Program. AI-dubbed videos on still images, AI music, or fake news are considered “AI slop” - a term for “spam” generated by AI.

Some AI channels have attracted millions of views, but YouTube believes this could damage the platform's reputation.

Some creators are concerned that reaction videos and compilations will be affected, but YouTube insists this is just a minor update to clarify its existing policy: Creators must make “authentic” and “unique” content, not “mass-produced” videos just to get views.

The move comes as OpenAI and Microsoft renegotiate their contract, allowing OpenAI to restructure as a for-profit company.
