On June 19 and 20, we had the opportunity to witness the support activities of volunteers at the Red Journey 2025 program. Here, volunteers took on many practical tasks such as: distributing water, guiding people to register for blood donation, cleaning the event area, providing logistical support... With their enthusiasm and responsibility, the children quickly created sympathy with the people and contributed significantly to the overall success of the program.
Nguyen Phuong Cam Van, Hoang Van Thu High School shared: This summer, I saw information about volunteer registration for the Red Journey program on Facebook, so I was very excited and registered with the Provincial Red Cross Society. After registering, I was trained on the content related to the program and directly supported at the blood donation point. I feel very happy because this is the first summer I have become a volunteer and contributed to this event. I will definitely register to participate again next summer.
Not only participating in major programs, many volunteers also participate in quiet but equally meaningful activities such as supporting the loading and unloading of charity goods, participating in propaganda, distributing leaflets, marching to mobilize blood donations, performing arts exchanges, etc. From 2023 to present, on average, each year, the whole province has more than 100 volunteers participating in supporting humanitarian activities in the summer. The volunteers are mostly students in the province. Notably, in the past 2 years, the age of students participating in volunteering has become increasingly younger. If in previous years, the volunteer force was mainly college students or high school students, this year, the Provincial Red Cross Association has recorded the appearance of many volunteers who are only in grades 6 and 7.
To ensure effectiveness and safety, volunteers are thoroughly trained by the Red Cross Society before participating in humanitarian activities. Training content includes basic knowledge about the Red Cross Society, communication skills, teamwork, basic first aid and how to behave in a volunteer environment... From 2024 to now, the Provincial Red Cross Society has organized 3 training courses for over 300 volunteers during the summer. With flexible and easy-to-understand communication methods, the training sessions not only provide knowledge but also help young volunteers become bolder and more confident in communicating and coordinating with older people.
Through these activities, children have clear changes in their awareness and behavior. Many parents, after witnessing the positive changes in their children, actively support their children's participation in volunteer movements.
Mr. Nguyen Bang Giang, parent of Nguyen Vu Phong, class 7A4, Cao Loc town secondary school, said: At first, I was worried because I was afraid that my child was still young and could not guarantee both health and skills. But when I saw him excitedly participating in the training sessions and then enthusiastically telling stories about working in groups, directly guiding blood donors... I was really surprised. I am very proud that he has done useful things, knows how to love and help people around him, so my family fully supports him to continue participating next year.
Ms. Nong Bich Thuan, President of the Provincial Red Cross Association, said: For summer volunteers, we do not put too much emphasis on the workload but prioritize the children to experience, learn and understand more deeply the value of sharing. The children's participation in humanitarian activities right from when they are still in school not only contributes to spreading the spirit of volunteerism but also creates a solid foundation for forming a positive personality and ethics from an early age. We believe that young people who have participated in summer volunteers will become active agents, continuing to inspire friends and relatives to act for the community.
It can be seen that participating in summer volunteering not only helps students spread love to the community but also provides an opportunity for them to train themselves, become stronger, know how to share and live more responsibly. From these simple but meaningful experiences, more and more young hearts are ready to act for the community, continuing the spirit of compassion and contributing to spreading good things in society.
