Visiting the family of Huynh Van Quan (born in 1960) in Hamlet K8, Tam Nong Commune (Dong Thap Province). Huynh Van Quan said: “I volunteered to perform military service on August 30, 1982. After more than 3 months of training in Dong Tam, Tien Giang Province (now Dong Thap Province), I was assigned to the 9th Infantry Company, Battalion 6, Regiment 20, Division 4 to participate in the fight to protect the southwestern border, against the Pol Pot genocidal regime”.

As a war invalid who lost his right leg, in April 1985, after being discharged from the army and returning to civilian life, Mr. Quan had a disability rate of 61%. At that time, the life of the 2/4 war invalid Huynh Van Quan was extremely difficult. But with the courage of a soldier of "Uncle Ho's Army", determined not to be a burden on his family and society, with the monthly war invalid allowance, plus preferential loans from the Bank, Mr. Quan and his wife increased production and spent economically to develop the family economy . After many years of hard work in rice farming, lotus growing, trading and fruit growing... up to now, Mr. Quan's family's economic life is basically stable and prosperous. Mr. Quan currently owns 10 hectares of rice fields cultivating 3 rice crops a year and 6.5 hectares of red-fleshed dragon fruit garden behind the newly built level 4 house, worth nearly 400 million VND. After the dragon fruit growing period ended, Mr. Quan switched to growing golden star apple, Thai jackfruit and banana...

On average, Mr. Quan's family earns over half a billion VND per year. Mr. Quan's four sons all have jobs and stable incomes. Mr. Huynh Van Quan shared: "With an annual income of hundreds of millions of VND, my family's life is stable and much more comfortable than before. I participate in the Red Cross, the People's Self-Management Group, the Reconciliation Group, the Veterans Association... in the locality."
