Marciniak is considered one of the best referees in the world at the moment. He has officiated the 2022 World Cup final between Argentina and France, as well as the 2023 Champions League final between Man City and Inter Milan.

However, this referee also created a lot of controversy, especially when a video recording his image appeared in the Real Madrid dressing room was posted. In addition, he was also discovered using a bag printed with the Real Madrid logo.

That made PSG fans extremely worried before the match. They thought FIFA was "backing" Real Madrid and were worried that the Paris team would suffer many unfavorable decisions.

On Twitter, a fan commented: "Why doesn't FIFA just give the refereeing power to Florentino Perez?"

Another person said sourly: “Real Madrid won before the match even started.”

A third person added: "PSG is mentally prepared to be oppressed."

Referee Szymon Marciniak was criticised after the semi-final between Inter Milan and Barcelona in the Champions League last season. After the match, midfielder Pedri publicly criticised the Polish referee, calling on UEFA to "review" his officiating.

“It’s not the first time we’ve had this problem with this referee,” said the Spanish star. “I think UEFA needs to get involved. There are a lot of situations that are difficult to understand. Every 50-50 is in Inter’s favour. The collision with Yamal should have been a penalty for us but it was a foul. Mkhitaryan should have been given a second yellow card but he didn’t give it.”

Both PSG and Real Madrid have performed impressively in this tournament. They have won 4/5 matches. Many experts believe that this match is worthy of being the early final of the FIFA Club World Cup.
