Strengthening anti-smuggling, detecting nearly 8,600 violations

According to the Customs Department ( Ministry of Finance ), currently, the sea route accounts for more than 53% of the total number of violations, mainly at major ports with acts such as: false declaration of goods name, false type, low declaration of value, fraudulent codes and origins. The land route is concentrated mainly at the Vietnam - Laos, Vietnam - China and Vietnam - Cambodia borders, with a series of acts of illegal transportation of goods such as fireworks, food, consumer goods, cigarettes, etc.

Notably, smugglers take advantage of e-commerce, express delivery services, and consignment services to transport goods of unknown origin, violating the law. Violating goods include gasoline, cigarettes, cosmetics, functional foods, milk, gold, and counterfeit goods of Vietnamese origin...

From December 15, 2024 to June 14, 2025, the Customs authority detected and handled 8,561 cases of customs law violations, with an estimated value of infringing goods of VND 13,614 billion. The amount of money collected for the budget was nearly VND 461.36 billion. In addition, the Customs force prosecuted 8 cases and transferred 54 other cases to competent authorities for prosecution.

Particularly during the peak period from May 15 to June 15, 2025, according to Plan No. 01/KH-BTC to implement the Prime Minister 's Official Dispatch No. 65/CD-TTg, the Customs force presided over and coordinated the handling of 93 cases, with the value of infringing goods exceeding VND 1,621 billion. Of which, there were 12 cases of counterfeit goods and intellectual property infringement worth over VND 1,600 billion; the remaining 81 cases involved frozen foods, cosmetics, confectionery, etc. worth over VND 21 billion.

Along with anti-smuggling, drug prevention continues to be a focus. From mid-December 2024 to mid-June 2025, the Customs force coordinated to arrest 103 drug-related cases with 110 subjects, of which 43 cases were led by the Customs.

The total amount of drugs seized is estimated at nearly 2 tons, nearly double that of the same period in 2024. The exhibits include: 401.7 grams of opium; 122.39 kg of marijuana; 32.6 kg of heroin; 1.86 kg of cocaine; 1,471 kg of ketamine; 273.53 kg and 1,899 synthetic drug pills; 106 kg and 60,000 other drug pills.

Faced with the complicated situation of smuggling, trade fraud and drug trafficking, the leaders of the Customs Department have directed functional units to increase resource mobilization and synchronously deploy professional measures to comprehensively inspect and control key routes.

Special attention is paid to combating acts of origin fraud and illegal transshipment to avoid anti-dumping taxes, countervailing taxes and trade defense measures. At the same time, many documents are issued to warn about high-risk items such as drugs and precursors.

In addition, the Department also consulted on drafting decisions of the Prime Minister and Head of the National Steering Committee 389 on perfecting the apparatus and organizing inspection teams in key areas such as Hai Phong and Quang Ninh.

Mr. Minh
