Erex is one of Japan's leading corporations in biomass power, currently wishing to implement projects to develop raw material areas, invest in biomass power plants and convert coal power plants to biomass power plants in Vietnam.
In Vietnam, Erex has been implementing the construction of biomass power plants including: Hau Giang Biomass Power Plant Project (20 MW), Yen Bai Biomass Power Plant Project (50 MW), Tuyen Quang Biomass Power Plant Project (50 MW).
In the context of Vietnam's commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050, the Government has identified renewable energy, including biomass energy, as playing an important role. The Power Master Plan VIII has set a target of 2,270 MW of installed biomass and waste-to-energy capacity in Vietnam by 2030.
Welcoming Erex's efforts in bringing biomass power technology to Vietnam, especially with biomass power plant projects in Hau Giang, Tuyen Quang, and Yen Bai, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung affirmed that these projects will contribute positively to the development of Vietnam's energy industry, as well as the friendly and cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Japan.
At the meeting, Mr. Honna Hitoshi presented to the Deputy Prime Minister a number of contents and proposals related to the biomass electricity price framework, exchange rate adjustment in electricity purchase contracts, etc.
In addition, Erex Group also offers scholarships to help Vietnam train human resources in the renewable energy and semiconductor industries.
The Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged the information shared by Erex and said that the current price framework has been calculated based on many factors, such as the competitiveness of biomass electricity with other renewable energy sources, the impact of electricity selling prices, electricity purchasing prices and based on data collected from biomass electricity projects that have been and are being implemented on the basis of approved feasibility study reports of the projects, including Erex projects.
"The mechanism to support biomass power generation has been reasonably calculated, on the basis of harmonization with other power sources," the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed and suggested that after the feasibility study reports of the Yen Bai 1 and Tuyen Quang biomass power plant projects are approved, Erex will provide project parameters to the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN0) for synthesis as a basis for proposing a power generation price framework for the next phase.
In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister said that the current policy of adjusting exchange rates in electricity purchase contracts is applied at a limited level and must comply with current regulations of Vietnamese law.
Appreciating the prestige and financial potential of Erex, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that the Group continue to expand investment, transfer technology for coal-biomass co-firing projects and support Vietnam in the energy transition process; coordinate with Vietnamese authorities to effectively implement investment activities on the basis of compliance with the law and in accordance with industry planning.
The Government encourages, promotes and supports Japanese enterprises to increase investment in Vietnam, cooperate with Vietnamese enterprises to diversify the supply chain, contributing to supporting Vietnam to participate more deeply in the global supply chain of Japanese enterprises in the fields where Japan has strengths and Vietnam prioritizes, especially in semiconductors, renewable energy, specifically biomass power...
Regarding Erex's scholarship program for Vietnam, the Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to be the focal point for coordinating human resource training related to the biomass power sector; the Ministry of Finance to be the focal point for coordinating the implementation of scholarships on semiconductors.
