Facing an opponent rated lower, the Vietnamese Women's Team did not take too long to score the opening goal. In the 7th minute, Van Su jumped high to head the ball to open the score after a chaotic situation in front of the Maldives goal.
The Vietnamese women's team dominated their opponents.
Just 5 minutes later, Van Su doubled the gap with a beautiful diagonal shot after a combination on the left wing. With a comfortable mentality, the Vietnam Women's Team continued to dominate the game and scored more goals by Bich Thuy (14'), Nguyen Thi Van (26'), My Anh (30') and Minh Chuyen (44'), ending the first half with a score of 6-0.
Coach Mai Duc Chung: "The Vietnamese women's team aims to top Group E of the qualifying round"
In the second half, Coach Mai Duc Chung made many personnel adjustments to prepare for the next match against the UAE Women's Team. The game was still under the control of the Vietnam Women's Team, although dangerous situations did not appear as often as in the first half. One of the most regrettable situations belonged to Huynh Nhu when she missed a penalty kick in the last minute of extra time.
Before that, in the 70th minute, Hai Yen was the one who sealed the score at 7-0 after an accurate header from a cross by Tran Thi Duyen. This goal showed that the Vietnamese women's team still maintained steady pressure from both wings - a strength that was fully exploited in this match. The big win over Maldives helped the Vietnamese women's team temporarily lead Group E with a big advantage in goal difference.
Speaking after the match, coach Mai Duc Chung acknowledged the team's efforts but also reminded his players to take better advantage of opportunities in upcoming matches: "We want to create a really good match to demonstrate the team's serious preparation. However, the players missed many opportunities, including a penalty. In the second half, there were times when the players did not play really aggressively, maybe because they were somewhat satisfied with the result. I hope the team will continue to maintain their focus and try harder in the next matches."
With a favorable opening victory, coach Mai Duc Chung has made appropriate personnel calculations to best prepare for the second match against the UAE - a match that is decisive for the only ticket to the 2026 Asian Women's Football Championship Finals.
