DNO - The People's Committee of Da Nang City has just approved the investment policy for the project to build and operate an inland waterway tourism project, with a total investment of nearly VND10,000 billion (including site clearance costs). The project will operate for 50 years, focusing on development along major rivers including the Han, Co Co, Vinh Dien and Cam Le rivers. According to the plan, the city will invest in building new, renovating and expanding 20 inland waterway wharves and ancillary works, on a total land area of over 15 hectares.
Notably, behind the 11 water wharves, a riverside landscape park will be built, with an area of over 25 hectares, to create a green space highlight, promote sustainable tourism development and increase the attractiveness of riverside areas.

Not only serving the purpose of tourism development, the port system also plays an important role in public transport by water. These will be the pick-up and drop-off points, connecting transportation between the city center and neighboring areas, contributing to reducing pressure on the increasingly overloaded road transport system.

The project encourages the use of boats running on clean fuel or green energy, which are environmentally friendly. The boats will have a capacity of 100-300 passengers and large ones from 300-500 passengers, meeting a variety of tourism and travel needs.
This project is divided into 2 phases, with specific implementation progress as follows: Phase 1 (2025 - 2030) will build 7 inland waterway wharves along the Han River, from Thuan Phuoc Bridge to Tien Son Bridge, along with a system of landscape parks, purchase of tourist boats and organize performing arts programs on the river - a unique cultural tourism product.

Phase 2 (2028 - 2031) with 2 component projects including construction of 9 wharves along Co Co River and Vinh Dien River and completion of the remaining 4 wharves along Cam Le River.
Investors will have to complete procedures on planning, land, environment and deposit investment guarantee within 3 years from the date of land allocation at each stage.

The long-term goal of the project is to develop new waterway tourism products, from river sightseeing tours, high-end culinary and entertainment cruises to transporting passengers through tourist attractions in and outside the center.

According to the Da Nang Department of Tourism, with the potential of more than 90km of inner-city rivers, the city has all the conditions to develop waterway transportation and tourism. This project will promote the existing natural advantages, create more “river frontage” for the city, attract investors and enhance the tourist experience.

It is expected that when completed, the inland waterway infrastructure system will not only be a highlight of the landscape but also a driving force to promote the model of a green, sustainable river city of Da Nang in the future.
