Mr. Pham Quoc Thuan cleans the streets, keeping the city clean and beautiful.
While pushing a large garbage cart slowly down the street, Mr. Pham Quoc Thuan (an employee of Tan An Urban Joint Stock Company, Tay Ninh province) carefully swept away the trash and leaves on the sidewalk. His faded floppy hat and small water bottle have been his "inseparable companions" throughout his journey of nearly 6 years.
Mr. Thuan said that to keep the streets clean and beautiful, without leaves or trash, sanitation workers have to take turns sweeping day and night. On sunny days, it is better, but on rainy days, the trash piles up, soaks up water, is dirty and heavy. Not to mention, on streets with food and beverage establishments, there is a lot of trash, even though it was swept clean last night, the next morning it is full of trash again. Especially during holidays and Tet, the amount of trash increases dramatically, making the work pressure many times heavier.
Despite the hard work, Mr. Thuan always maintains a sense of responsibility for his job: “Every job has its own difficulties, but once I choose it, I always try to do my best. Every time I sweep, I observe carefully to make sure I don’t miss any trash, keeping the streets as clean as possible. I always feel proud, because I am contributing to protecting the environment and beautifying the streets.”
Mr. Tran Hoang Vu and his daily work
Similarly, Mr. Tran Hoang Vu (an employee of Tan An Urban Joint Stock Company) still quietly roams the streets, parks, etc. every day with his familiar water tanker. Every morning or late afternoon, when the sound of the engine sounds, it is also the time he begins his work of taking care of every green area of the city.
Mr. Vu shared: “We always follow the watering schedule to ensure the plants grow well. There are days when the sun is hot, after watering the plants I am drenched in sweat, and when I get home I am exhausted. But in return, every time I run across the road I just watered, seeing the green, fresh trees makes me feel happy.”
During holidays and Tet, the number of decorative plants and flowers on display increases many times over, and watering workers have to work overtime, day and night to ensure that the plants do not wither and the flowers do not wilt. There is more work, more pressure, but everyone tries to complete their tasks well for a green, clean, and beautiful city.
There are many people like Mr. Thuan and Mr. Vu who work hard day and night to preserve the urban lungs. They help trees grow healthily, filter the air, regulate temperature, reduce fine dust and noise - environmental issues that are becoming increasingly urgent in the process of urbanization./.
