Returning to this land, former Minister, Chairwoman of the Committee for Population, Family and Children, former Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Women's Union - Le Thi Thu was moved when meeting her old comrades, including former female prisoners of war who had once been together.
Mrs. Thu was born into a family with a revolutionary tradition. At the age of 12, she worked as a liaison for her mother, who was also a revolutionary soldier. She worked as a secretary for comrade Le Thi Rieng, then participated in revolutionary movements and was arrested by the enemy and imprisoned for 3 years,...

Ms. Thu shared that thanks to the people's nurturing, protection and care, the revolutionary forces at the Giong Dua base were always protected from the fierce attacks of the US and puppets. The formation of the base in the suburbs while the enemy was still very strong in the inner city reflected the flexible and skillful leadership of the Saigon - Gia Dinh Regional Party Committee to build forces and develop the revolutionary movement, gradually overcoming difficulties, contributing to the overall victory of the whole country.
“After retiring in 2008, I became the Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Resistance Traditional Club and Head of the Saigon - Gia Dinh Women's Union. I was very moved when I returned to the Giong Dua Historical Site. Duc Hoa was one of the fiercest battlefields during the resistance war against the US to save the country. I hope that, promoting the tradition of this heroic land, today's young generation must strive, have health and knowledge to build their homeland, worthy of the sacrifices of the previous generation," said Ms. Thu.
Former Minister, Chairwoman of the Committee for Population, Family and Children, former Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Women's Union - Le Thi Thu (2nd from right) shares her feelings when revisiting the Giong Dua historical site.
During the war years, in order to build and develop the force, the Regional Party Committee and its affiliated agencies and units opened many training courses for key cadres for the urban and rural movements. These training courses could not be organized in the inner city due to security and secrecy requirements, so bases had to be built on the outskirts of the Saigon - Cho Lon area to serve this need. In that historical context, the Giong Dua area in My Hanh commune, Duc Hoa district was chosen as the base by the inter-districts 5, 6, 7, 8 and the Hoa Van and Cong Van committees under the Saigon - Gia Dinh Regional Party Committee.
This is where our army, people and many leaders came to stay, organize training, and build forces for the inner-city revolutionary movement in the context of the Southern revolution still facing many difficulties. This is also one of the typical bases, representing the type of "People's Heart Base" - a unique feature of the Vietnamese people's war.

The formation of bases in the suburbs reflected the flexible and talented leadership of the Saigon - Gia Dinh Regional Party Committee to build forces and develop the revolutionary movement, gradually overcoming the difficulties and challenges of war, contributing to the overall victory of the whole country.
With such important historical significance, the inter-district bases of districts 5, 6, 7, 8, together with the Public Works and Flower Works Committees of the Saigon, Cho Lon, Gia Dinh Regional Party Committee (1961-1964) were recognized as provincial-level relics by the People's Committee of Long An province (old) in 2012./.
