In Vietnam, although Metaverse is in its early stages of development, Gen Z and Y have quickly grasped and transformed traditional values into AR space. Whether it is Ao Dai, handicraft products, traditional dances or cultural heritages, ranked landmarks... all are vividly digitized through avatars and 3D images, allowing users to approach closely, seems being able to "touch" and "feel" the culture and national arts in a virtual environment.

Creative "digital culture editors"

Proud of their national traditions, many young people "naturally" become proactive storytellers, while others enthusiastically accept and spread, turning traditional culture into entertaining content that leaves a mark on the domestic and international community. Designer Ha Minh Trang, born in 1999 (Ao Dai Future brand) combines AR technology so that when users scan their camera, images of lotus flowers and bronze drum motifs will appear vividly. The product was introduced at EXPO Osaka 2025, attracting attention from international media - clearly demonstrating the bold, innovative style of Gen Z.

On TikTok, brands like Dong Creative create sophisticated designs of traditional costumes, combining AI and 3D graphics, or young choreographers and directors digitize traditional dances into avatar spaces, opening up interactive folk dance scenes. These videos not only reach millions of views but also spread strongly through the international creative community, bringing Vietnamese culture to young people around the world.

Photographer Nguyen Long (Zinble Academy, Hanoi) shared: "Metaverse and AI open up multi-dimensional storytelling for culture. I have collaborated with designers such as Le Thanh Hoa, Cao Minh Tien, Le Lam..., to create AR-integrated photo sets - appearing on Instagram and Fstoppers (an online community). You just need to point your smartphone camera at it and vivid motifs such as lotus flowers and cranes appear, extremely attractive and interesting. We are not simply developing personal projects, but also very proud to have successfully brought Vietnamese culture and fashion beauty to virtual spaces at home and abroad with new technologies...".

Regenerating heritage, positioning traditional values and identities

Gen Z and Gen Y not only want to preserve but also want to renew the national spirit. Young Pham Duc Long, co-founder of the Heritage Journey channel, a very popular channel on TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, said: "We not only make videos, but also ask the question: Will identity be lost or if the craft village is forgotten? Technology from social networks and Metaverse helps answer this and makes the story come alive and vivid for all generations."

Among the young people at the forefront of digital technology from AI to Metaverse, we cannot fail to mention the young people of Chu Van An High School for the Gifted (Hanoi) - where the team just won a high prize in the famous AI for Good Vietnam competition . Talking to Thanh Nien reporter , the team's instructor Do Thi Hoang Anh said that her students just won the first prize in AI for Good Vietnam and entered the top 15 best teams nationally with projects to convey language, culture, and emotions through voice recognition. She said: "AI is the bridge for Gen Z to bring Vietnamese cultural content to the world through international languages, helping to be closer, authentic, and create emotional effects between people."

Metaverse can become a place for young Vietnamese people to hear - see - feel - interact and experience culture. Not only stopping at 3D scanning, virtual space can allow to experience the ancient Imperial Citadel, the majestic Hue Royal Palace or visit handicraft villages with avatars..., all are very new and attractive.

However, according to experts, to build a multi-sensory virtual world that is standard and rich in emotions, it is necessary to invest in infrastructure, specialize human resources, orient users and ensure historical accuracy along with attractiveness. This is a challenge but also an opportunity for Vietnamese culture to truly "live" in a modern and sustainable way.

Although there are not many complete and famous Metaverses, more and more Vietnamese Gen Z and Gen Y are using AR, AI and avatars to make culture come alive and spread in global languages. Metaverse is not only a technological playground but also a corridor for Vietnamese culture to step out into the world, embodying friendliness, rich emotions and maintaining its own identity.
