According to police sources, the attack occurred at 3 a.m. on February 5 local time (about 5 a.m. the same day Vietnam time), reported THX .

A group of people using snipers, automatic rifles and grenades attacked the police station. The attackers escaped before police and security forces arrived at the scene.

Those killed included officers from the elite Swabi police force, which was deployed in the area after an increase in attacks ahead of the general election, scheduled for February 8.

Police added that all roads leading to the scene were blocked and that a search was underway for the attackers. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Terrorist attacks have increased in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in recent days.

On January 31, parliamentary candidate Rehan Zeb Khan and four of his aides were shot dead in an area along the Afghan border.

Earlier on January 30, a bomb blast in Balochistan killed at least 15 people, including two civilians and four law enforcement officers. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), one of several separatist groups operating in Balochistan, claimed responsibility for the incident.

The increase in terrorist attacks, especially in western Pakistan, has raised the possibility of delaying the election. However, the Election Commission of Pakistan has insisted that the election will proceed as scheduled in any case.
