According to the Hue City Department of Health , the proportion of elderly people increases steadily every year, while the low birth rate and gender imbalance at birth create double pressure on the health and social systems. Deputy Director of the Department of Health, Ms. Phan Minh Nguyet said: "The rapid rate of population aging requires a change in management thinking, investment in long-term health care and disease prevention for the elderly, instead of just focusing on curing diseases."
Currently, Hue City has implemented a number of health care programs for the elderly, such as training, health promotion conferences and maintaining a public health network to support people, especially in suburban areas and areas where the elderly live alone. However, due to limited socio -economic conditions, many elderly people do not have full access to specialized health services. The popular nuclear family model also causes many elderly people to lack regular care from their children and grandchildren.
Faced with the reality of population aging, Hue City has identified population work as an important task that requires the synchronous participation of Party committees, authorities, organizations and the whole society. In particular, a series of solutions are being implemented to improve population quality from the root. Notably, the city is stepping up propaganda to change awareness in the community, especially young couples, about having two children, not choosing the sex of the fetus and eliminating the ideology of male preference and female prejudice. Along with that, inspection and supervision of medical facilities on fetal sex diagnosis are also being strengthened to handle violations, ensuring gender balance at birth.
The healthcare system has been upgraded with modern equipment for prenatal and newborn screening, health check-ups for the elderly, and pre-marital counseling. Population staff training has also been focused on to meet the increasing demands in the new period. Ms. Phan Minh Nguyet emphasized: "We will closely coordinate with the education sector to integrate gender, reproductive health, and population content into the curriculum from high school to university, while promoting the role of religious organizations, village elders, and village chiefs in propaganda in ethnic minority areas."
Population aging is an inevitable trend, but with careful preparation and appropriate strategies, Hue City can completely turn this challenge into a driving force for development. Building a healthy aging community with a good quality of life is not only the responsibility of the health sector, but also requires the cooperation of the entire political system and the people.
