Ho Chi Minh City honors 28 4-star OCOP products, affirming the position of urban agriculture .
The event was organized by the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City and the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City. The event was not only an honoring ceremony but also a strong affirmation of the position and potential of urban agriculture in the most dynamic economic center of the country.
At the ceremony, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee awarded decisions to representatives of production entities with OCOP products meeting 4-star standards such as Can Gio Yen Dao Investment, Trade and Service Company Limited with 16 products; Saigon Agricultural Corporation One Member Branch - Saigon Livestock and Food Processing Company with 7 products; Song Khoe Production, Trade and Service Company Limited with 3 products; Toan Cau Trade Linkage Company Limited and Vietnam Coconut Joint Stock Company with 1 product recognized as meeting 4-star OCOP standards in 2024.
Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee awarded the decision to the representative of the production entity whose OCOP products meet 4-star standards.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee emphasized: "In the joyful atmosphere of celebrating the 327th anniversary of the formation and development of Saigon - Cho Lon - Gia Dinh, we are pleased to be present at the Ceremony to announce and award the Decision to recognize OCOP products in 2024. This is a testament to the diversity, tireless efforts, creativity, research and exploration of enterprises, cooperatives, production households and the determination of all levels and sectors".
Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee spoke at the ceremony.
Mr. Dung said that the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program, which has been strongly implemented by Ho Chi Minh City since 2019 based on the successful experience of more than 40 countries, has made great strides. From zero, by June 2025, the entire city recorded 419 OCOP products recognized by 155 entities, of which 312 products achieved 3 stars and 107 products achieved 4 stars.
The program also included a signing ceremony to support the consumption of OCOP products between product distribution systems and OCOP entities.
Notably, the City’s OCOP product structure has undergone an impressive shift. While previously it was mainly traditional products such as staple agricultural products, handicrafts or ornamental plants, the list has now expanded to value-added sectors such as processed foods, beverages, medicinal herbs and especially community tourism services.
Visitors can visit and experience 4-star OCOP products displayed at the event.
However, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Dung also frankly admitted that the results achieved are still not commensurate with the potential and advantages of a special urban area. He expressed his hope: "In the coming time, the City will have more favorable conditions and space to develop OCOP products, especially when the orientations for developing large urban areas are realized."
In order for the OCOP program to continue to develop sustainably, Mr. Nguyen Van Dung requested that departments, branches and localities strengthen their supporting role in a synchronous manner. “The Department of Science and Technology will focus on supporting intellectual property registration and trademarks. The Department of Industry and Trade is assigned to strengthen connections and trade promotion to bring products into modern distribution channels. The Department of Tourism will coordinate to build attractive tourist routes associated with OCOP product production and trading establishments. At the same time, the People's Committees of districts, towns and grassroots levels need to be more proactive in promoting local products and strengthening quality monitoring after recognition,” Mr. Dung added.
The award ceremony is a meaningful highlight within the framework of the 3rd City-level New Rural Culture and Sports Festival in 2025. The festival space is also a place to display typical OCOP products of Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces and cities, high-tech agricultural models and green production and green consumption initiatives, creating an effective connection forum between the community, businesses and manufacturers.
The organizers designed a separate OCOP product display space to promote local products to tourists.
Through the event, the City hopes and calls on OCOP entities to continue promoting the spirit of initiative, creativity, constant innovation and especially focus on maintaining and improving the quality of star-rated products, contributing to building a strong brand of Ho Chi Minh City agricultural products in domestic and foreign markets.
