Saint-Maximin's allegations caused a media storm. |
On the Zack en Roue Libre podcast, Saint-Maximin accused Fenerbahce of trying to force him to use stimulants: “They went as far as trying to dope me. These things are not known to outsiders. You can't say anything because you will be threatened.”
After the above interview went viral on social media, Saint-Maximin even clarified on his personal page: “When I was sick, Fenerbahce’s medical team provided me with a treatment that looked like doping. I don’t know what their purpose was, but it was scary.”
Saint-Maximin also spoke of his strained relationship with manager Jose Mourinho, particularly after he was left out of the squad for the Europa League tie with Rangers in March. Mourinho has publicly criticised players for being overweight and lacking in training.
However, the French striker believes that his relationship with Mourinho is not too bad. "I am often accused by the coaching staff of being late, but that is not true. Many rumors about me are spread to cause division," the former Newcastle star admitted.
Saint-Maximin hinted that there were individuals within Fenerbahce who intentionally damaged his relationship with the club's board of directors and coach Mourinho, creating a toxic environment at the club.
Saint-Maximin also hinted at shady financial issues at Fenerbahçe, but refused to go into detail for fear of being threatened: “There are things that go beyond football, things that involve money and shady dealings, but I can't say anything because they will threaten you.”
Fenerbahce later issued a statement denying Saint-Maximin's accusations and declaring their readiness to sue the player: "By distorting the truth about medical treatment after experiencing health problems, the player intentionally misled the public and damaged our reputation."
In the 2024/25 season, Saint-Maximin played for Fenerbahçe on loan from Al-Ahli, but was unable to reproduce his top form. On the contrary, he became the center of many troubles.
