Applying digital technology to improve border management efficiency

Applying digital technology in border management and protection is an inevitable trend, contributing to improving the effectiveness of monitoring, controlling entry and exit and fighting against crime. In An Giang, the provincial border guard force synchronously coordinates professional measures with digital transformation, coordinates propaganda, and mobilizes the masses to participate in maintaining security and border sovereignty.

An Giang has a land border with the Kingdom of Cambodia, a place of diverse cultural and ethnic exchanges and also an area where many bustling trade activities take place. However, the border security situation is still potentially complicated. Transnational crimes such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, and smuggling are increasing, organized with sophisticated methods. Illegal migration and illegal labor exit also affect national security.

In addition, factors such as climate change, natural disasters, epidemics and cyber security are posing new challenges. Meanwhile, the process of economic integration and development at major border gates creates pressure to control the flow of people and goods, and if there is a lack of good coordination, it can easily lead to the risk of competing local interests.

Border guards coordinate with customs to screen and check suspicious luggage of people passing through the border gate.

Faced with this situation, the An Giang Provincial Border Guard Command has proactively deployed synchronous solutions, focusing on the application of digital technology to control and protect the border. Surveillance camera systems, drones, automatic positioning and warning devices have been installed in key areas. The unit has coordinated with functional agencies to develop software for immigration management, population data management in border areas and monitoring of foreigners staying there. The integration of biometric technology and artificial intelligence has helped detect unusual behaviors early, supported the tracing of subjects showing signs of danger, and improved the capacity to prevent and handle situations.

Not only focusing on technology and engineering, the An Giang provincial border guards also play a core role in propagating and mobilizing the masses to protect the border and landmarks. Border guards continue to implement Directive 01/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister on organizing a mass movement to participate in protecting territorial sovereignty and national border security in the new situation. Self-managed security and order and border protection teams continue to maintain effective operations. Models such as "Border loudspeaker", "Border class", "Propaganda warrior", "Peaceful hamlet and village" are widely deployed, contributing to building a solid people's position.

The Provincial Border Guard Command also pays special attention to border diplomacy. Regular talks with the Cambodian border guard force are maintained effectively. The two sides regularly organize joint patrols, joint inspections, coordinate in handling arising situations; sign memorandums of understanding on border management, border gate regulations, control of people entering and leaving the country, and establish hotlines and share crime data.

Colonel Pham Van Thang, Deputy Commander of the Provincial Military Command, Commander of the An Giang Provincial Border Guard Command, said: “In the coming time, the unit will continue to train and develop Border Guard officers in the direction of specializing in foreign languages, international communication skills, negotiation and situation handling. At the same time, increase the rotation of officers to remote areas to improve field capacity and understanding of the area.”

The border guard force is always ready to respond to emergency situations. At the same time, maintain mobile forces, special forces, elite reconnaissance forces, meeting the requirements of complex tasks. Units continue to launch the models "Border loudspeaker", "Border class", "Propaganda soldier", "Peaceful hamlet" ... to mobilize the community to participate. At the same time, support the construction of essential infrastructure, such as: schools, medical stations, clean water, electricity, Internet ... to improve people's lives, strengthen national defense - security from the grassroots. At the same time, implement social security programs, take care of people's health, support poor students to overcome difficulties, contributing to building the image of border soldiers close, friendly, a solid support for people in border areas.
