Reporter : After 13 days of competition between 21 art units with 25 plays participating in the 5th national professional stage art festival on "the image of the People's Public Security soldier" - 2025, what are your thoughts as the chairman of the Jury?
- Playwright, PhD Nguyen Dang Chuong: The 25 works participating in the festival are a multi-colored picture, vividly depicting many aspects, many fields, many tasks, many challenges, difficulties, many hidden corners of life and in social life that have been and are weighing heavily on the shoulders of the people's police officers.
The audience who came to the festival heard many explosions on stage in the past few days. Among those explosions, there was the terrible destruction of the explosives on the top of the flagpole mountain, marking the first sacrifice, the voluntary sacrifice of the newly established police force, to protect the young government from internal and external enemies when the country had just gained independence.

Another explosion created a column of waves, becoming a monument in the middle of the ocean, sinking the enemy under the sea, during the years when the whole nation fought against colonial invaders. Those people were engraved in history, posthumously awarded the title of hero by the state and became symbols for future generations to follow.
In reality, the People's Public Security Forces sacrificed a lot during the anti-American period. The sacrifices of the police officers during this period were exploited by the performing arts in a new way. It was a silent sacrifice, or in other words, a silent sacrifice of the commandos.
They themselves are intellectuals, revolutionary artists of the people's police force, they have never worn uniforms, badges, shoulder straps... And until today, many of the sacrifices and contributions of the commando soldiers still "have to be wrapped up" in silence!
What are you still wondering about this festival?
- In the era of 4.0 technology with a flat world , social life has many positive changes but there are also many sophisticated crimes that are infiltrating all areas in a cross-border space. This is a big challenge for the people's police force in the work of protecting national security and social peace.
From real cases, many art units have created works, depicting the process of solving crimes by the people's police against crimes of human trafficking, drug trafficking, organ trafficking, corruption, traffic accidents, robbery, murder, cyber fraud, etc.
Each case is told using different methods, artistic techniques and styles. The main issue is that investing in script writing requires careful research on professional expertise.

Police officers forget themselves for the country and serve the people.
. In your opinion, to have scripts that closely follow current events, what investment should we focus on for the next festival season?
- During the festival, there was a case that was promoted to a "thrilling case" with a fantasy feel in some plays. But all of them aspired, wished and reached the goal of building the image of a people's police officer who was "brave, intelligent, capable, talented, determined and humane".
However, the art units performing at the festival are only a small part of the achievements of the people's police force in solving crimes. Because, there has never been a case in any field that the Vietnamese people's police have not solved. Three art units have chosen this topic to exploit the difficulties, dangers and brave sacrifices of firefighters.
They sacrificed themselves amidst the enemy fire and transformed into bright stars in the daytime to make the earth and sky clear again. All the images are expressed very simply, very ordinary, very rustic, nothing grand or terrible, but they are born from morality, personality, from the sense of responsibility, from the dedication, enthusiasm in the burning heart with the desire to contribute, to forget oneself for the country, to serve the people of the police force.

Dr. Nguyen Dang Chuong: Is it necessary to sacrifice to become an icon?
. In recent years, the Ministry of Public Security has organized delegations of authors to go on field trips, launched creative writing nationwide, and provided financial support for units to stage works. This is a special concern for the development of literature and art, and careful preparation for this year's Stage Arts Festival. How do you view the limitations of the festival?
- There are works that indulge in too much crime, criminal thoughts and actions, plots and schemes, and inhumane tricks of criminals. Therefore, the image of the police officers in the works is blurred, their presence to solve problems in the script seems to be to fulfill their assigned duties and responsibilities, they do not have enough space and time on stage to create an image.
Some plays lack authenticity. The plot, structure, events, situations, circumstances and dialogue of the characters are imposed by the author and director, forcing the characters to speak according to the author's subjective ideas, so the audience feels that the character, the circumstances and the situation are not real in real life.
Everyone understands that the creators want to push the characters into tragic situations, so that they can overcome and win. But if it is too fictional, it will only create a negative reaction! In this festival, the characters are police officers who have sacrificed too much! The characters who have sacrificed are all in works about drug cases, human trafficking, and rescue. It is known that every war has losses and sacrifices. However, is it necessary to sacrifice to become the image of a people's police officer?
Playwright, Dr. Nguyen Dang Chuong also emphasized that the history of the People's Police is closely linked to the history of the nation. Therefore, this is a fertile land for writers to plow to create works of art with high quality in terms of ideology, content and art. Our police are "People's Police" but there has not been any play that exploits the issue of "Policemen living in the hearts of the people", "the people's feelings for police officers", "the flesh and blood bond between the people and the police", "The people are the fulcrum to create the image of the police officer" and many other interesting issues that have not been exploited.
According to him, the creative forces of the stage only understand the police officer in the external form, in the information that the media reports daily, but do not understand the core, the nature, the hardships and sacrifices, the deep inside that has become the flesh and blood of the police officer. Let's write about the people's police officer with our hearts.

In his career as a screenwriter, Dr. Nguyen Dang Chuong has had many famous works, such as: "The Story of a Missing Person", "The Strange Afternoon Sun", "The Crime of Power", "Overcoming the Heart of the Storm", "The Sand Castle", "The Race in the Dark", "Not a Case", "Meeting the Dead", "Paying the Price", "Not Falling Down"... The script "Not a Case" was staged by 3 troupes in 3 genres: drama, cheo, and folk opera; the play "Meeting the Dead" had cheo and drama; the play "Being a King" was staged by 5 troupes; the play "The Remaining" was staged by 6 troupes; the play "Land and Sea" was staged by 2 troupes, cai luong and cheo... His script "The Story of a Missing Person" was staged by 18 art units. In 2017, he was awarded the State Prize for Literature and Arts for the group of stage scripts: "One tree does not make a forest"; "Sea and Shore" (or "Crime and Power"); "Race in the Dark".
