Of these, 370 houses were newly built and 238 houses were repaired. Regarding beneficiaries, 136 houses were supported for families of meritorious people, relatives of martyrs and 472 houses for poor and near-poor households. The total cost to support these 608 houses was over 30 billion VND.
The People's Committee of Tien Giang province has issued a Decision on additional allocation with the target of 2025 to the district-level budget to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for people with meritorious services, relatives of martyrs, and poor and near-poor households. The Department of Finance has issued many documents guiding localities to balance and use the 5% savings of regular expenditure in 2024 to implement support for the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses as well as instructions on payment and settlement of implementation costs.
Comrade Ly Van Cam, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Department of Home Affairs of Tien Giang province, said: “Up to now, the whole province has started construction and completed and put into use 587/608 houses, including 136 houses to support people with meritorious services and 451 houses to support poor and near-poor households. Currently, 21 houses are being implemented in Cai Lay town and Tan Phuoc district. It is expected that these 21 houses will be completed and handed over on schedule as registered with the Central Steering Committee before June 30, 2025.
Comrade Ly Van Cam said that in the process of organizing the implementation of the policy of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, localities encountered some difficulties and obstacles such as some poor and near-poor households were renting or staying on other people's land so they did not have land to build houses; households encountered difficulties in procedures for transferring and changing land use purposes, and did not meet the conditions for construction permits; some households had land but the land was located in planning areas, clearance areas, landslide areas... so it was difficult to receive support for housing construction.
