Prime Minister chairs meeting to promote cooperation with some Latin American - Caribbean countries

(Chinhphu.vn) - On the afternoon of June 30, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a meeting on promoting cooperation in a number of fields with a number of countries in the Latin American - Caribbean region to prepare for high-level foreign affairs activities and strengthen cooperation with this region in the coming time.

Also attending were Party Central Committee members: Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha; Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung; General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Deputy Minister of National Defense ; leaders of relevant ministries, branches and agencies.

At the meeting, delegates focused on discussing promoting cooperation in energy, food, construction... with Latin American countries, including Brazil, Costa Rica, Cuba...

In his concluding remarks, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that high-level foreign affairs activities and cooperation with the region in the coming time will continue to implement the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, and diversification; being a good friend, a reliable partner, and a responsible member of the international community.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to promote the diversification of markets, products and supply chains in the Latin American - Caribbean region, a large market with much room for economic, trade and investment cooperation to serve the goals of economic growth and national development; promote negotiations on a trade agreement between Vietnam and the Southern Common Market (MECOSUR) group; and promote and expand investment activities of Vietnamese enterprises in the region.

The Prime Minister requested relevant agencies to continue researching and proposing tasks and solutions to promote practical and effective cooperation with other countries in various fields.
