EXPANDING CONTENT, CHANGING BROADCAST TIMES IS STILL NOT "HOT"
It can be seen that the recently broadcast TV series have more diverse content, not focusing on family drama, love anymore but on everyday stories, close to reality. There are poor lives, struggling with food - clothes - rice - money, no longer luxury cars, CEOs, villas, luxurious young ladies... Somewhere, the audience still sees many humane, positive, healing stories with a strong Vietnamese character in My Father, The One Who Stays, Dusty Roads, Mother of the Sea, Gentle Sunshine, Cold Sun, Rainbow on the Horizon, Tam Duc Heir... However, these films still do not have enough "attraction" like Doc Dao or Di Giua Troi Ruc Roc and the films that have made waves before.

Since the beginning of 2025, Vietnam Television - VFC Film Studio has also proactively developed a strategy to change the broadcast time of prime time movies to attract audiences of all ages, creating the habit of watching movies at fixed times, but it seems that the effect has not been as expected.
Commenting on the current "stagnant" state of television dramas, director Do Thanh Son said: "In my opinion, it's because Vietnamese television dramas today lack sincerity, lack identity, and more importantly, lack real stories. We follow trends, forcing ourselves into the formulas of "family - betrayal - love triangle - overcoming poverty", but doing it superficially, the scripts lack depth, and the emotions don't settle down enough. It's understandable that audiences get bored after watching a few episodes."

Talking about the quality of TV drama scripts, the director of Di Giua Troi Ruc Rot shared that we lack the time and environment to nurture a good script. Many young scriptwriters are very talented, but they are forced to meet monthly and quarterly deadlines, "where is there space to think deeply, write thoroughly, and nurture it to maturity?" Director Do Thanh Son said: "A good script needs to be read, edited, criticized, and lived with the writer for at least a few months. We do not have a professional process for that yet."
Watching TV series today, the audience can easily see an actor playing the same type of role, the same type of character "tailored", no matter how good the actor is, how popular the face is, it will be boring. And the actor himself will not have many opportunities to develop his creativity, to create an explosion in different types of roles. There are many young actors in TV series, but their acting is not up to par, lacking highlights, so even if they play the main role, they cannot make an impression on the audience.
Director Do Thanh Son also warned about the current situation in some film crews of choosing actors just because of... the number of "followers" that actor has on social networks, not because the actor is suitable for the role or has good acting ability.
WHAT TO DO TO CREATE A "POP"?
According to representatives of some TV production units, they have been experimenting with short TV series. Because short series represent flexibility in the current digital age, when audiences tend to enjoy short, concise but still emotional content. Reducing the number of episodes can improve the script standards, focusing on suspenseful elements and subtle details.

"To create a real "boost" for TV series, producers need to have a clear strategy from specifically identifying the audience they want to target, building works that suit their tastes and shaping the filmmaking style. In addition, having a clear process in all stages helps film production become fast and effective. At the same time, it is necessary to implement creative marketing strategies to promote films, use social media platforms effectively, and interact regularly with the audience. Finally, producers need to be ready to change and experiment with genres," said a representative of the production unit Hoa Binh Film.
Finding new faces and training young actors is also very important. Currently, VFC is still recruiting and training young actors. Several other units have also planned to set up training classes and discover young actor talents through casting and reality acting programs.
"We need an ecosystem to train and support young actors systematically and long-term. As for familiar actors, don't just put them in the same role. Let them audition for roles that are off-track, let them be "crushed", let them fail, fall in love with the wrong person, or play the villain in the movie," said director Do Thanh Son.
