For many years, people living on Me Suot Street (Hoa Khanh Nam Ward) have been accustomed to flooding every time it rains heavily. The reason is that the area has a low foundation and an incomplete drainage system. Survey results show that the entire area has only one drainage channel about 10m wide running through densely populated residential areas before entering Phu Loc Canal. Ms. Ngo Thi Phuong, who lives in Alley 161, Me Suot Street, said that during the rainy season, the snow channel is often flooded 0.5-1m, sometimes 2m. “My place is low-lying, every time it rains heavily, water from somewhere floods the yard. Sometimes when I am cooking rice, the water enters the kitchen, I have to stop and lift the pots and pans onto the chairs. In the house, bricks are often placed high enough for cabinets and beds. The most miserable are the elderly and children, who can easily slip and fall because the floor is always damp,” Ms. Phuong said.

Similarly, the intersection of Road No. 2, Hoa Khanh Industrial Park and Nguyen Luong Bang Street (Hoa Khanh Bac Ward) is also one of the flooded areas because the main sewer connecting the intersection of Road No. 2 to Bau Sau Lake cannot drain water in time when it rains heavily. Mr. Dang Duc Nhat, Chairman of Hoa Khanh Bac Ward People's Committee, said that to overcome this, in addition to maintaining the Green - Clean - Beautiful Sunday movement, the ward regularly calls on neighborhood groups and residential areas to clean up and clear sewers, especially before and during the rainy season. At the same time, coordinate with functional units to periodically inspect the main sewers and large manholes in industrial parks and residential areas to promptly detect and handle blockages.

Currently, Lien Chieu district has 29 locations at risk of flooding, such as Da Phuoc 6, Me Suot, Da Son, Tran Xuan Le... Learning from experience through many floods, since the beginning of June, Lien Chieu district has requested functional forces to soon plan to review all and implement dredging and clearing open canals, in which special attention is paid to clearing the flow from the drainage canal on Me Suot street to Da Co bridge, about 3.4km long. At the same time, develop plans to prevent and overcome the consequences of natural disasters. Speed up the construction progress of drainage works and projects, review drainage infrastructure in residential areas and urban drainage. The district also promotes propaganda and mobilizes people to clean up and clear water intakes in front of houses and in the area.

Recently, the investment in drainage infrastructure and flood prevention canals in Lien Chieu district has received special attention from the City People's Committee. In particular, the construction of the main drainage line along Tran Dinh Tri street; the sewer line from Phung Hung street to Da Nang bay to reduce the load on Phu Loc river, limit flooding in Hoa Khanh Bac and Hoa Khanh Nam wards. On the other hand, the construction of the drainage line from Khanh Son landfill to Hoa My canal, covering the open canal about 500m long in the area of Hong Thai - Tan Trao street.

The city also plans to build new and renovate the drainage system on the canal from Bau Tram Lake to Hoa Khanh - Cu De canal; renovate Phu Loc canal and the basin from Trung Nghia Lake to Phu Loc canal; renovate Hoa My canal system, Da Co bridge towards Phu Loc canal, Khe Can sewer line No. 2; build new and upgrade the drainage system, landscape of Thanh Vinh mountain area and along Road No. 4 of Hoa Khanh Industrial Park... Mr. Nguyen Nhuong, Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee, said that up to now, a number of projects have been approved by competent authorities for investment policies and have begun to establish investment projects for construction works, especially for the section from Khanh Son landfill to Da Co bridge.
