- Appraisal of the project of embankment to create forest planting area along the West coast
- A good start for the afforestation movement

Along the coastal alluvial plains, in previous years, due to the impact of climate change, serious landslides often occurred in vulnerable areas every year. Seawater erosion not only destroyed a large area of existing protective forest but also caused landslides inside the dike, seriously affecting the lives and production of people along the East Sea dike.
To cope with the above situation, in recent years, the province has taken advantage of the support of the Central Government to invest in building many breakwater projects in vulnerable areas. This is not only a solution to overcome landslides caused by storms and high tides, but also contributes to accretion, creating beaches, and regenerating coastal protection forests.

Typically, in Hiep Thanh ward, Ca Mau province, there is an alluvial line from the seaport of Nha Mat hamlet to the border area. Thanks to investment in building a breakwater, for more than a year, landslides have almost stopped. People here are extremely excited.
Mr. Dang Van Quang, who has contracted forest land in Nha Mat hamlet, Hiep Thanh ward, shared: "People here mainly live by industrial shrimp farming inside the sea dike, and outside the sea dike, they have contracted forest land to both preserve the forest and raise and exploit aquatic and seafood products under the forest canopy. Previously, when there was no breakwater, every time the rainy season came, people were worried, because high tides and big waves always threatened to break the dike, greatly affecting production. Currently, I am raising shrimp, crabs, clams, and mussels very effectively. The land is alluvial, the State planted forests and they also grow well, wherever the trees grow, the land is alluvial, creating a green protective forest area".
Up to now, the locality has invested in building many breakwaters in vulnerable areas that are frequently subject to landslides, especially in Ganh Hao commune and Hiep Thanh ward. The breakwaters are built 150-200 m away from the protective forest area, facing the sea, not only reducing wave pressure and protecting the forest but also creating a large alluvial area.
Many coastal areas are filled with sediment, expanding alluvial plains and growing protective forests.
Mr. Le Chi Linh, Deputy Director of the Bac Lieu Special-Use Protective Forest Management Board, said: "Currently, for the area being filled up, the Management Board recommends that the locality do a good job of propaganda and mobilizing all resources to implement socialization of afforestation and forest development. Specifically, additional planting will be implemented to create a green protective forest belt. Thereby, contributing to the good implementation of the work of protecting protective forests as well as the production and aquaculture activities of coastal people."

Regenerating forests and rich alluvial plains will be protected by solid breakwaters, creating a clean environmental landscape, helping people develop production, associated with community tourism and eco-tourism. In particular, the local marine economic potential will be exploited and developed.
