Samples from the Seine River do not meet standards for the Olympic Games held from July 26 to August 11, according to Paris region governor Marc Guillaume.
A weekly report released by the Paris region and the mayor's office pointed to unseasonably rainy weather as the cause of the high levels of two types of fecal bacteria, including E Coli, in river water.

“Water quality remained impaired due to rainfall, high flows, limited sunshine and below-normal seasonal temperatures,” the report said. Results showed E Coli levels above recommended limits at four locations in the river for most of the week from June 10 to 16.
The Seine will host both the Olympic opening ceremony and outdoor events during the world's biggest sporting event, and Paris is still waiting and hoping that the river will be clean enough.
Last August, in the marathon swimming events, two out of four days of triathlon competition were canceled because the water was too dirty.
If the river is too polluted when the Olympics open, swimming events could be postponed for several days instead of moving to another location, authorities said.
