After the merger, the land border under the management of the An Giang Provincial Border Guard Command is more than 150km long. The area is vast, with mountains, forests, sea, islands, plains, many river mouths, seaports, trails, openings... The Provincial Border Guard Command manages 3 international border gates bordering the 3 provinces of Kampot, Ta Keo and Kandal (Kingdom of Cambodia); many large seaports, a large number of boats and ships; a large sea area bordering the Gulf of Thailand, sharing historical waters with Cambodia... Along the border, there are hundreds of control stations, working groups, and guard posts.
On the land border of the province, people on both sides mainly practice agriculture according to their habits. Taking advantage of the area with many trails, small canals, and dense vegetation, people often carry smuggled goods back and forth across the border. Along the two sides of the international border gates and secondary border gates, there are still cases of people organizing citizens to illegally enter and exit the country, go across, and return. At sea, the buying, selling, and transporting of smuggled oil, cigarettes, cosmetics, and illegal seafood exploitation still occur...

Reporter: Dear comrade, with the characteristics of a large area and sometimes complicated border situation, how will the An Giang Provincial Border Guard Command deploy its tasks to strictly manage the area under its responsibility?
Colonel Pham Van Thang: In the coming time, to successfully complete the task, we will continue to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the resolutions, directives, plans and instructions of the superiors on military, national defense and border tasks. Proactively grasp the situation of the border, sea and islands; advise the Party Committee, Border Guard Command, Military Region 9, Provincial Party Committee, Provincial People's Committee on policies and measures to promptly handle and resolve incidents, avoiding being passive and surprised. At the same time, advise the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial People's Committee to deploy the Vietnam Border Law and implement projects and plans related to protecting the border and sea areas promptly and effectively.
We will increase our forces, vehicles, and weapons; organize patrols, control, and strictly manage borders, at sea, at border gates, and on trails; strictly maintain fixed checkpoints to protect the border, prevent smuggling, trade fraud, and illegal entry and exit...
At sea, the Provincial Border Guard Command will arrange additional means and coordinate with functional forces to synchronously deploy professional work. Reporter: To both maintain security and order and contribute to economic development for people in border areas, what solutions and tasks will the Provincial Border Guard Command implement?
Colonel Pham Van Thang: In the coming time, the Provincial Border Guard Command will conduct surveys to review the situation of residents, areas, hot spots, gathering places, and complicated locations in the border area. On that basis, we will specifically direct each grassroots unit to implement programs, models, and approaches to the poor. Increase the number of cadres to do a good job of propagating and mobilizing people to implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, and border area regulations.
We further promote the role of border guards participating in local Party committees, commune-level cadres, and party members in charge of households. Promote the implementation of movements, programs, and typical models to help people eliminate hunger, reduce poverty, and develop the socio-economy. Mobilize businesses and production facilities to create jobs for local people; guide the conversion of occupations and appropriate farming methods for households with difficulties.
The Border Guard Force will closely coordinate with local forces and authorities, resolutely and strictly handle households that deliberately participate in transporting, assisting in smuggling, and committing trade fraud. At the same time, it will promote border diplomacy activities; better coordinate with the border protection force of Cambodia in exchanging information and border situations under the responsibility of both sides; organize regular meetings and direct dialogues on the border; maintain bilateral patrols to promptly detect and inform each other about the border situation...
