According to the National Steering Committee 389, in the first 6 months of 2025, the whole country detected 50,736 violations (down 21%), handled and collected more than 6,500 billion VND for the budget, prosecuted 1,875 cases, with 3,235 subjects. In the peak month alone (from May 15 to June 15), the number of handled cases increased by 80.5%, with 204 criminal cases prosecuted. In An Giang , the province's functional forces detected 353 violations (down 54.7%), with goods valued at about 6.8 billion VND, and 18 cases were criminally prosecuted. In the peak month alone, 220 cases were inspected, 102 violations were detected, and the budget collected more than 642 million VND.
Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung, Head of the Peak Task Force, said that during the peak month, the locality effectively controlled all three routes: Border, domestic and cyberspace, thereby limiting the emergence of new hotspots.
Recently, the Border Guard, police, market management, customs and local border authorities have coordinated to organize checkpoints and patrol closed trails and openings. "The province has directed functional agencies and local authorities to continue to strictly maintain the peak, not allowing smuggling to break out again. The implementation of the Prime Minister's Official Dispatch 82/CD-TTg is the responsibility of the entire political system" - Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung shared.
Market management forces increase inspection of stores selling products on the market.
“In the past, it was common to see motorbikes and boats carrying smuggled goods running at night. Now it has been much reduced,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Ut (living in Vinh Xuong commune). Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh, a trader at Tan Chau market, said: “In the past, we traded domestic goods but had to compete with smuggled goods because they were cheaper. Now the government is taking strong action against counterfeit goods, so Vietnamese goods have a place.”
Positive feedback from the people shows the clear effectiveness of anti-smuggling measures. This is also the motivation for local authorities to continue to maintain the anti-smuggling posture. Along with inspection and handling measures, the province also promotes social security programs and changes the livelihoods of people in border areas through investment projects. The province has encouraged businesses to open factories and agricultural processing workshops, creating jobs for young people and freelance workers who have been involved in smuggling.
Border communes are supported with infrastructure investment, improving the quality of education and health care, implementing clean agricultural production models, helping people stabilize their lives. Chairman of Tan An Commune People's Committee Do Van Leo emphasized: "The locality implements anti-smuggling not only by administrative orders, but also by socio -economic solutions, helping people escape the smuggling spiral by creating more jobs, having stable livelihoods to increase income".
In reality, although there have been many positive changes, the anti-smuggling work still faces many difficulties. Smuggling subjects are increasingly sophisticated, frequently changing their methods and tricks of operation, taking advantage of the darkness, the dense network of rivers and canals and familiarity with the terrain to transport smuggled goods. "We recommend that superiors continue to pay attention to investing in modern means and equipment and have a suitable treatment regime for officers and soldiers performing this task. Continue to have policies to support economic development in border areas, to contribute to completely eliminating the problem of smuggling as happened in the past" - Chairman of Vinh Xuong Commune People's Committee Bui Thai Hoang suggested.
The work of preventing and combating smuggling is a regular and continuous task. The province has proposed 6 key groups of solutions to limit smuggling in the coming time, such as: Maintaining the results of the High Point Task Force, integrating tasks for the Provincial Steering Committee 389 to deploy regularly and continuously; clearly identifying routes, areas, and key subjects to concentrate forces, effectively preventing banned and counterfeit goods; strictly handling denunciations of violations, promoting the central role of people and businesses operating legitimately, operating a 24/7 hotline; strengthening staff management, strictly handling negativity; promptly praising typical examples in the fight against smuggling...
