Thang Long - Hanoi has all the elements to make the cultural industry a key economic sector with great potential, so that the capital not only possesses valuable cultural heritages but also becomes the cultural and artistic center of Vietnam.
Promoting culture and building an international brand will help Hanoi stand out on the global cultural map, attracting tourists and investors.
The workshop focused on three main topics: Research and assessment of the potential of Thang Long - Hanoi cultural heritage; the current status of development of cultural industries in Hanoi; solutions to promote the potential of cultural heritage to serve the development of the capital's cultural industry.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Associate Professor, Dr. Do Hong Cuong, President of Hanoi Capital University, said that in the context of globalization, countries have been moving towards a new awareness of the role of culture and cultural resources in development.
Abundant natural resources and favorable geographical location no longer play a decisive role in the prosperity of a country. Instead, the foundation for the development of every nation and people is creativity - the country's internal strength from tradition to the present.
That internal strength is cultural resources - endogenous strength, soft power..., considered a special resource, a soft power that promotes sustainable socio-economic development in a humane and humane direction.
Hanoi, with its rich history and culture, has great potential to develop the cultural industry into a spearhead economic sector, creating beautiful spiritual products for society, contributing to ensuring sustainable development in the capital in the coming time.
However, to exploit cultural resources in general and cultural heritage values in particular for the development of the capital's cultural industry, Hanoi needs a specific mechanism to strongly attract the participation of the business community.
According to Professor Dr. Le Hong Ly, Chairman of the Vietnam Folklore Arts Association, Hanoi has four types of potential that few localities in Vietnam or the world have: natural landscape heritage, historical and cultural heritage, architectural heritage, and folk cultural heritage.
Hanoi also has craft villages, handicrafts, folk performing arts, rituals, festivals, customs, folk knowledge, folk songs, folk culture, cuisine, folk games, etc. This is the richest, most diverse and most potential heritage group for cultural development based on intangible cultural heritage.
With the advantage of rich and diverse cultural capital, Hanoi is gradually developing its cultural industry strongly. However, the roadmap to turn potential into opportunities in developing the cultural industry and branding Hanoi as a creative city still faces many difficulties and challenges, especially in mobilizing social resources.
According to Dr. Bui Van Tuan, Deputy Director of the Institute of Hanoi Studies and International Training, Hanoi's strength in developing cultural industry in the current context is not only potential resources such as rich cultural heritage, diverse creative ecosystem but also demonstrated in strong international connectivity capacity.
Hanoians have always been known as flexible, open-minded individuals who are ready to accept new ideas. This important resource has created Hanoi’s diversity in international connections with more than 100 capitals of countries, as well as trade relations with over 200 countries and territories…
In particular, since officially becoming the first creative design city in Vietnam to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, Hanoi has actively promoted international cooperation activities in creative fields, especially with members of UCCN, to expand the market for production and consumption of products from the cultural industry, gradually realizing the goal of becoming the creative capital of Southeast Asia.
However, according to Dr. Bui Van Tuan, to realize this strength, Hanoi needs to focus on improving cultural infrastructure, building investment incentive policies, and creating a favorable environment for cultural activities.
Promoting culture and building an international brand will help Hanoi stand out on the global cultural map, attracting tourists and investors.
Especially in the current context of separation, merger and restructuring of administrative units, Hanoi needs to organize research, evaluation and repositioning of the identity values and brands of each region and locality throughout the area to have mechanisms and policies to promote effective and sustainable development of cultural industry.
Training and developing human resources is also an indispensable factor in the sustainable development of the cultural industry. Hanoi needs to focus on promoting and raising awareness of the role and position of the cultural industry in the current socio-economic development of the capital.
It is necessary to research and survey to properly assess the current status of human resources in the cultural industry, especially creative human resources, and accurately forecast the fluctuations of this human resource in order to have appropriate training and development plans.
Along with the Hanoi Studies Knowledge Training Program, Hanoi needs to have training courses on Cultural Industry for localities, craft villages, etc. to help cultural entities better understand the development strategy of cultural industry - the key economic sector of the Capital.
Former Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Truong Minh Tien suggested that it is necessary to identify, link the heritage system and synchronize in promotion; invest in facilities and services; increase periodic cultural festival activities; research and promote the cultural heritage resources of Thang Long - Hanoi to serve the development of cultural industry, helping Hanoi realize the goal of developing cultural industry, contributing to sustainable development and enhancing the position of the capital in the international arena.
The presentations at the workshop are the scientific basis for the school to develop and propose solutions and recommendations to the leaders of Hanoi City on developing cultural industries; building and positioning the brand of a Creative City and building elegant and civilized Hanoians in the new era of the nation.
