Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Vu Quynh.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Vu Quynh, Vice Principal of Lac Hong University, and an expert in the field of career counseling and university admissions, said: "The 2025 university admissions regulations have many new points, candidates need to be careful when making decisions to register their wishes."

Many changes in admission regulations

Could you tell us what changes have been made in the university admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training this year compared to previous years?

- In 2025, the university admission regulations will have important new points to increase fairness and transparency between admission methods. Firstly, the Ministry of Education and Training has completely eliminated the early admission method, all candidates can only register for admission after receiving the high school graduation exam results, except for priority candidates. Secondly, high school transcript admission must use the learning results of all 3 years of high school (from grade 10 to grade 12). Thirdly, schools must publicly announce the conversion method between admission methods. Fourthly, the limit on the number of admission combinations for each major is removed, giving candidates more opportunities to choose a career.

In addition, this year's exam structure is assessed to have higher differentiation, enhancing the assessment of thinking ability, serving both graduation and university admissions.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Vu Quynh: “Entering university is not too difficult, when one door closes, another will open. The most important thing is that candidates must choose the right career they love, develop their personal strengths, and at the same time, must be linked to future job opportunities.”

What important milestones should candidates pay attention to during this year's university admissions season, sir?

- This year, according to the admission regulations issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, the admission process takes place in a short time.

Candidates are only allowed to officially register for university admission when the Ministry of Education and Training announces the high school graduation exam scores from 8:00 a.m. on July 16 to July 28. During the registration process, candidates should note that there is no limit to the number of times they can register their wishes, or the number of times they can adjust their previously registered admission wishes, until the system officially closes on July 28. After completing the registration, candidates should pay attention to the next step of paying the admission fee online, which takes place from July 29 to 5:00 p.m. on August 5.

The most anticipated moment is 5pm on August 20, when schools begin to announce the benchmark scores and the first round of admission results. After knowing the admission results, candidates must immediately perform the last important step, which is to confirm their admission online on the system. If a candidate has been admitted but does not confirm their admission on the system, it is considered that they have missed the opportunity.

Candidates should note some other time frames: on July 21, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the threshold to ensure the quality of admission to teacher training and health sectors. For many universities, after September 1, there may still be additional admissions, due to insufficient quotas.

This year, there are many admission methods. In your opinion, which admission method should candidates prioritize to increase their chances of being admitted?

- Candidates should prioritize choosing the admission method that suits their abilities and conditions to increase their chances of being admitted. If you are eligible for direct admission, you should take advantage of it immediately because the competition level during admission is low and the chance of being admitted is high.

Candidates should consider taking part in aptitude tests, thinking tests, etc., because many large universities often prioritize admission based on the results of these tests (accounting for 40-50% of admission quotas). Admission based on high school graduation exam scores is still the most traditional and popular method, with the largest quota (accounting for 40-80% depending on the school). If you have stable academic performance and high scores, you can apply for transcripts, but it should be noted that not all schools apply this. Some schools also accept admission based on international certificates such as IELTS, SAT, especially in foreign language and international business majors. This admission method is often suitable for candidates who have invested in early preparation.

Finally, candidates should take advantage of the mechanism of combining multiple admission methods, because many schools currently convert scores to a common scale and consider from high to low, meaning that the more methods, the higher the chance of admission. For example, at Lac Hong University, candidates can apply all 4 methods for admission: high school transcripts, high school graduation exam scores, and competency assessment scores of Ho Chi Minh City National University, or organized by Lac Hong University itself.

It is predicted that the 2025 high school graduation exam scores may fluctuate, as the graduation exam questions in some subjects are considered quite difficult. So how will the graduation exam scores affect the upcoming university admission process of candidates?

- The 2025 high school graduation exam is assessed to have a higher level of differentiation and is more difficult than last year, especially in Math and English, leading to a decrease in the expected score range, especially in the average - good score group. Therefore, schools using high school exam scores as the main admission method, especially for stable majors, are expected to have a tendency to lower the admission score by about 1-2 points compared to 2024. However, for majors with a combination of admission methods such as high school transcripts, competency assessment scores, or international certificates such as IELTS, SAT, the total expected admission score can still remain stable, or only fluctuate slightly.

Choose the right industry and career

The country is in a new stage of development, in which science and technology are considered a breakthrough field. How should candidates consider this new development trend in the process of choosing a career to welcome this new development opportunity?

- In the context that science and technology are identified as a breakthrough field of the country, especially when the Politburo issued Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthrough in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation, candidates need to see this as a strategic opportunity, from which they can choose suitable careers for themselves. In the new development stage, candidates should prioritize key technology industries such as: artificial intelligence (AI), microchips - semiconductors, information technology, electricity - electronics, mechatronics, logistics... In addition, candidates should consider additional industries with multi-disciplinary applications such as: digital healthcare, biotechnology...

This year, many universities will abandon the admission method based on high school transcripts. How should candidates consider this when applying for admission, sir?

- Although high school transcripts are no longer considered for admission, there are still many other admission methods. Candidates should apply many methods to increase their chances of admission. For schools that have stopped considering high school transcripts, candidates should consider considering admission based on high school graduation exam scores or competency assessment test scores.

But note that schools that abandon the admission method based on academic records are often very competitive. Candidates who want to apply to these schools must carefully consider their abilities to increase their chances of being admitted right from the first round.

More and more businesses in the technology sector, especially semiconductor technology, AI, and automation, are looking to invest in Vietnam. What qualities do candidates need to study in these fields?

- First of all, it must be said that to study any major, one needs to have certain qualities related to the characteristics of that major. Choosing a major should be based on personal passion, personal ability and future labor market trends. In addition to professional knowledge, it is necessary to practice soft skills, foreign languages, digital thinking and practical experience so as not to fall behind in the era of digital transformation and digital society.

To study well in technology fields such as semiconductors, AI, automation, candidates need to have a passion for exploring technology, have a solid foundation of knowledge in Mathematics and Physics, have logical and systematic thinking, perseverance, carefulness, creativity and innovation. In addition, teamwork skills, communication, foreign languages and a proactive spirit, overcoming pressure are also indispensable qualities to study and develop yourself in this field.

For Dong Nai candidates, what are the chances of admission when choosing to study in the technology field, especially semiconductor technology, AI, and automation?

- Lac Hong University is strategically cooperating with Arizona State University (ASU) of the United States to improve the quality of training in engineering and technology according to international standards, while enhancing foreign language skills, helping students confidently integrate and work in a global environment. In Dong Nai, Lac Hong University is the first and only university to date to open training programs in the fields of semiconductor microchips and AI. We plan to have priority in tuition fees and scholarship policies for students applying for majors in the field of technology.

Thank you, Associate Professor!
