The ethnic minorities in the Central Highlands are the ones who are responsible for changing their way of thinking and working to develop the economy and society. They, and no one else, must know how to build a sustainable life for themselves instead of passively receiving aid that only solves the problem from the top.

In the early 90s, Tan Chau commune (now Di Linh commune, Lam Dong ), with 2/3 of its population being ethnic minorities, was still on the list of the poorest communes in the province. As a miracle, Tan Chau has risen up and become the hometown of ethnic minority billionaires. In this commune, out of a total of 1,870 households, there are 290 rich households with an annual income of billions of VND per household. Of the 290 rich households, 244 are ethnic minorities, each of which is producing and trading 10 hectares of coffee or more. Tan Chau commune deserves the title of Labor Hero in the Renovation period. Ka Ming village (now Di Linh commune, Lam Dong) is one of the ethnic minority villages of the Co Ho that is at the forefront of changing the way they do business. People have changed their crop structure early, from rice to coffee. Rice only solves the problem of food, coffee has helped them get rich. When coffee prices rise, after just one or two crops, houses are built close together, and electronic sounds and engine noises fill the village.

Tourism is also an option, and many villages have succeeded in this direction. In fact, while many villages welcome the sunset in a lazy atmosphere with wine mats, other villages light up with civilized fires. Young people have pioneered in organizing tourism businesses by exploiting the historical and cultural values of their people. In the Central Highlands, there have been many effective models, becoming the main source of income for a part of the people. Very encouraging is Lac Duong town (now Lang Biang ward, Lam Dong). Only a few small villages in a remote mountainous area have now become a familiar destination. This land is famous for the biodiversity of Bidup-Nui Ba National Park; for the precious values of Co Ho culture that are being promoted. Like Lac Duong, community tourism is considered a lifesaver for the Ede villages in the inner city of Buon Ma Thuot city (now Buon Ma Thuot ward, Dak Lak). There are currently seven community tourism spots in this area, attracting thousands of ethnic minority workers to participate ( cuisine , gongs, folk arts, crafting and selling handicrafts, traditional musical instruments). Unique tourism products have gradually attracted tourists. Up to now, some villages in Buon Ma Thuot city such as Ako Dhong, Dhap Rong, Ea Bong, Ko Tam have regularly connected with domestic and foreign tourists through travel agencies and domestic tourism businesses. This is considered a suitable direction and in reality, it shows that this type of community tourism has created a stable livelihood for the people...

Dare to change thinking, dare to do and be creative in the way of doing to improve life, is the answer to success in the journey to find sustainable livelihoods of ethnic minorities. A few examples above have contributed to proving that.
