Many majors with 9.5 points/subject still fail

VTC NewsVTC News25/08/2023

This year, the Ministry of Education and Training applied a new preferential scoring regulation, so there is no longer a situation where the benchmark score exceeds the threshold of 30. However, many majors still have very high benchmark scores, even candidates who score 9.5 points per subject still fail.

Topping the country this year is the Computer Science major of Hanoi University of Science and Technology with a benchmark score of 29.42. The score for this major is calculated according to the formula: (Math x 2 + Subject 2 + Subject 3) x 3/4 + Priority points. With a separate scoring rule, candidates who are good at Math will have the advantage of being multiplied by a factor of 2.

The Computer Science major attracted even more attention when even the two top students of block A00 with 29.35 (Nguyen Manh Thang - former student of Bac Giang High School for the Gifted and Nguyen Manh Hung - former student of Trung Vuong High School, Hung Yen) failed. If dividing the average score of each subject, candidates must achieve about 9.7 - 9.8 points/subject or higher to have a chance to pass this major.

Also at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence major has the second highest entrance score in the country with 28.8 points (equivalent to about 9.6 points/subject).

Next is the Public Relations major (University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi) with a benchmark score of 28.78, combination C00 (Literature, History, Geography). To pass this major, candidates need 9.59 points per subject.

Last year, Public Relations, Oriental Studies and Korean Studies led with 29.95 points. These majors are still in the group with the highest input in the C00 group this year, but have decreased compared to last year, partly due to a slight decrease in the group score.

Ranked fourth is the Mathematics Education major of Thai Nguyen University of Education, Mathematics Education major with 28.75 points, equivalent to about 9.58 points/subject for candidates to be able to pass the school this year.

Next is the Multimedia Communication major at the Academy of Journalism and Propaganda with the standard score for block C15 being 28.68 (equivalent to 9.56 points/subject).

The History Pedagogy major also attracted attention, at Hanoi University of Education, the benchmark score was 28.58 (equivalent to 9.53 points per subject).

Priority Points Calculation Formula 2023

According to the 2023 admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, the priority bonus points applied to region 1 are 0.75, rural region 2 is 0.5 and region 2 is 0.25. A candidate can be awarded a maximum of 2.75 priority points.

The priority score for candidates with a total score of 22.5 or higher after converting to a 30-point scale is determined according to the formula: Priority score the candidate receives = [(30 - Total score achieved)/7.5] x Total priority score is determined normally.

With this calculation, the priority points for candidates with a total score of 22.5 or more will gradually decrease. Candidates with a total score of 30 points in 3 subjects will no longer be given priority.
