Malaysian journalist wants home team to publicize naturalized player's background

(Dan Tri) - Even though FIFA and AFC did not investigate the origins of the naturalized Malaysian players participating in the match against the Vietnamese team, a Malaysian journalist still requested that the backgrounds of these players be made public.

In a special article published in Malaysia's The Star newspaper on July 6, journalist Rizal Hashim wrote: "Even though FIFA did not investigate the origin of the new naturalized players of the Malaysian team, after Malaysia provided the necessary documents related to these players."

“However, Malaysian football fans still question the criteria for Malaysia to agree to naturalize those players,” journalist Rizal Hashim added.

According to the above journalist's point of view, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is not fair with domestic football fans, as well as not fair with football fans in the region, regarding the story of naturalized Malaysian players.

Journalist Rizal Hashim shared his opinion: “Transparency is the element that the Malaysian team is lacking. They have not clearly explained the background of the newly naturalized players, nor clearly explained the path for these players to obtain Malaysian citizenship.”

“What is the origin of these players from Malaysia? Players who are naturalized as Malaysians must have a genuine connection to the country of Malaysia. Currently, those involved in Harimau Malaya have not clarified that,” were the lines written by journalist Rizal Hashim.

In addition to demanding that FAM and Harimau Malaya must disclose the origin of new naturalized players, journalist Rizal Hashim also pointed out a very important point. That point is that the Malaysian team must develop based on the resources of players trained domestically, and cannot develop in the direction of massively naturalizing foreign players.

The Malaysian journalist continued: “Naturalized players are to supplement the national team, not to completely replace local players. Developing local players is very important and necessary. The national team must have a Malaysian identity.”

The above Malaysian journalist's viewpoint is also the viewpoint that many Vietnamese football officials and former officials have mentioned recently.

The leaders of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) recently expressed their view that Vietnamese football will not mass naturalize players like Malaysian or Indonesian football. We will develop based on the source of players we train ourselves, only adding naturalized players in a limited and controlled manner.

Regarding the origin of the naturalized Malaysian player, AFC General Secretary Datuk Seri Windsor Paul said: "No information related to the suspicion of a naturalized Malaysian player has been sent to the AFC."

“Issues regarding player status and qualifications are under the jurisdiction of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). The AFC itself has not received any warnings or concerns from FIFA regarding the 4-0 win of the Malaysian team over the Vietnamese team,” AFC General Secretary Datuk Seri Windsor Paul affirmed.

This statement by Datuk Seri Windsor Paul means that FIFA and AFC want to close the noise surrounding the origin of naturalized Malaysian players.
