Stop online stock trading if chip-embedded citizen identification card is not updated

Báo điện tử VOVBáo điện tử VOV14/08/2024

Pursuant to the 2023 Law on Identification, Project 06 of the Government and the request of the State Securities Commission, many securities companies are asking customers to convert information from ID cards or citizen identification cards (CCCD) without chips to CCCD with chips.

The notice has been sent to investors in the past, the deadline for updating is September 30. Some companies set an earlier deadline, such as Yuanta Vietnam Securities asking investors to complete before August 20; or VNDirect Securities asking investors to update before August 31...

From October 1, if customers have not updated their information, securities companies will stop providing online trading services as required by the State Securities Commission. All transactions will be conducted directly at the counter, while customers must still standardize their information. Investors opening new accounts must also use a chip-embedded ID card.

Unlike biometric authentication of banks, standardizing data of stock investors aims to synchronize and match personal information between accounts and on CCCD. Online stock trading is currently the main and most popular method in the market. With just an internet-connected device, investors can monitor market fluctuations, place buy/sell orders, monitor and manage investment portfolios...

By the end of July, domestic investors had opened more than 8.33 million securities trading accounts, setting an all-time high.

With the requirement to standardize investor data, the State Securities Commission also requested securities companies and fund management companies to review, synthesize, and report the list of people with practice certificates who have worked at the unit from January 1, 2021 to June 30, 2024.
