After more than 3 years of relentless attacks, the Russian army is entering the decisive phase to completely control the Donetsk region.

The fighting situation in the area of Konstantinovka is becoming increasingly difficult for the Ukrainian army (AFU), units of the Central Group of Forces of the Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) are gradually approaching this city, which is of strategic importance for Ukraine's defense in Donbass. This was stated in an article in the American New York Times (NYT), in which NYT called what is happening on this front line, the “decisive battle” of the RFAF, to control the entire Donetsk province of Ukraine.
The NYT notes that the AFU is still fiercely resisting the RFAF's underground wave of attacks, but every day the AFU loses more troops, weapons and loses more territory, increasing the threat of being surrounded. Meanwhile, the RFAF is actively attacking in Donbass, taking advantage of its advantage in troops and weapons. In recent weeks, the RFAF's Central Group of Forces has intensified its attacks on the city of Konstantinovka, both from the air and from the ground. The Russians have deployed a large number of various UAVs, which are actively used in all sectors of the front. These RFAF UAVs provided almost round-the-clock surveillance of AFU movements and attacked Ukrainian troop concentrations and positions; especially fire positions. The RFAF's three-fold superiority in numbers and firepower over the AFU made it much more difficult for the AFU to defend itself. In the face of constant Russian attacks, the AFU was forced to use unconventional approaches to maintain its combat capability. For example, the AFU began using robot ambulances to evacuate the wounded and move ammunition across areas, under RFAF supervision and fire control. But many robot ambulances were destroyed, including in minefields.
Under the watchful eye of the RFAF, the Ukrainian defense forces are facing difficult logistical support and have no troops to exchange for the frontline combat forces, which are being withdrawn to the rear for rest. With the continuous Russian attacks on infrastructure, the AFU's losses here are increasing rapidly. The NYT also predicts that the RFAF will continue to increase pressure on Kostiantynivka with the ultimate goal of encircling and taking control of this important city in Donbass. Russia’s tactics include not only expanding the territories under its control, but also depleting Ukraine’s resources. The RFAF’s constant UAV and artillery attacks have undermined the morale of the Ukrainian military, creating situations where every day can be decisive. If just one link fails, the whole system can collapse. In this situation, the AFU General Staff continues to seek ways to stabilize the situation and delay the Russian offensive. In particular, special forces and elite forces have been mobilized to strengthen defenses and conduct counterattacks in the area stretching from Pokrovsk to Chasov Yar.
Every day, the situation around Konstantinovka is becoming more and more critical for the AFU, as the forecasts are disappointing. The AFU is now actively preparing for defensive battles, turning Kostiantynivka into an area that can hold the RFAF back, just as they did at Chasov Yar. On the Russian side, the capture of Konstantinovka would pave the way for the RFAF to advance into new territories, which would bring them closer to their main goal, complete control of Donetsk. As such, this is a decisive stage for Moscow to take full control of Ukraine’s Donetsk region. While the Kostiantynivka front was heating up, the RFAF launched another attack on the city of Kramatorsk in the northwestern Donetsk region. Several Telegram channels were broadcasting a video , showing a large column of smoke rising from the city of Kramatorsk. The video description said the attack was carried out with Tornado-S multiple launch rocket systems. There is no information yet on what targets were hit in Kramatorsk, but Kramatorsk is the largest city in Donetsk Oblast, which is still under Kiev’s control. It is possible that the targets were Ukrainian industrial facilities. Ukraine has not yet released any information on the Russian attack there.
Slavyansk-Kramatorsk are currently the two largest cities in Donetsk, and also the largest remaining fortified areas of the AFU in Donetsk. While the RFAF has not yet reached them, RFAF's multiple rocket launchers are eroding Ukrainian infrastructure in these cities, systematically weakening the enemy's defense capabilities.
