US: Investigating 2,500 suspected fraudulent voter registrations in Pennsylvania

(Dan Tri) - Lancaster County officials in Pennsylvania (USA) are investigating about 2,500 voter registration applications, after election workers noticed signs that they may have been fraudulent.

The applications under investigation were sent in two batches just before Pennsylvania’s voter registration deadline on Oct. 21. Election officials contacted the district attorney’s office after noticing some of the applications were suspicious. The applications had similar handwriting, voter signatures that did not match what was on file, and personal identification information including names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and driver’s license numbers were incorrect, District Attorney Heather Adams said at a press conference on Oct. 25. Investigators spoke with voters listed on the applications in question, but they said they had no involvement in submitting the applications, Adams said. Adams did not say how many applications her office reviewed, but said 60 percent of them were fraudulent. She also confirmed that some of the applications were legitimate and would be processed. The official added that the fraud in this election was likely linked to a large-scale campaign group. The announcement came as voting began in Pennsylvania, a key battleground state for both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris in the November 5 presidential election. Lancaster County voted for Trump by nearly 16 points in the 2020 presidential election.
