Musiala's injury is a heavy blow for Bayern Munich. |
In the FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final match that took place in the early morning of July 6, in the last minute of injury time at the end of the first half, Jamal Musiala tried to chase the ball down the sideline and collided with Gianluigi Donnarumma. The PSG goalkeeper hit the ball but pressed his body on Musiala, causing the German player's foot to be deformed.
The 22-year-old fell to the ground, clutching his left ankle and lying motionless for several minutes before being carried off the pitch on a stretcher by the medical team. According to BILD , Musiala suffered a fractured left fibula and multiple ligament injuries, leaving him in an extremely serious condition.
Bayern Munich's medical team said Musiala's condition was not stable, and they feared he could be out for at least five months, if not longer. Musiala not only broke his left fibula but also suffered multiple ligament injuries, potentially ruining his career.
This incident is a shock for Bayern, because Musiala has just returned to official competition since early April after recovering from a muscle injury. He played quite well at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and is expected to inherit the legendary number 10 shirt of Bayern Munich next season.
Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund told DAZN after the match: “Unfortunately, Musiala’s condition is not good.” Manager Vincent Kompany also confirmed that Musiala had been taken to hospital for further tests and agreed that the Bayern youngster’s injury “doesn’t look good.” Kompany also stressed that after Diogo Jota’s death, this was a “second shock” for him in a short time.
