Emsden James (left) and Kana-Biyik are two young recruits of MU this summer. |
The most notable name this time is Harley Emsden James, a 15-year-old central defender from Southampton. The young player has been on the Red Devils' radar for the past 14 months.
James only made two appearances in the U18 Premier League last season, but managed to leave his mark for England's U15s. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, MU believes they have just "picked up" a rough diamond that can develop into a pillar of the future.
Southampton have rejected numerous offers for James over the past year, with the youngster being courted by Chelsea, Man City, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Newcastle. James' choice of United shows that the Carrington academy's appeal remains strong, especially in the eyes of young players' families.
The Red Devils also confirmed the completion of the deal to recruit Enzo Kana-Biyik. The 18-year-old striker scored 9 goals for Le Havre's U19 team last season and was a reserve for the first team. Immediately after signing the contract, Enzo was immediately sent to gain experience at Lausanne-Sport in the Swiss National Championship.
Thus, MU has two more young names besides rookie Matheus Cunha (transferred from Wolves for 62.5 million pounds) and left-back Diego Leon. However, for fans, that is not enough to calm the worries about a gloomy transfer period.
MU are still negotiating with Brentford about Bryan Mbeumo when this striker is valued at the same level as Matheus Cunha, and are also eyeing Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer as a backup option.
The summer is still long, but for Ruben Amorim, the pressure to bring in real quality signings is still there, especially when key positions such as striker, central midfielder and goalkeeper have not been completely resolved.
