According to RT, on July 9, the Hamas group announced that it would release 10 Israeli hostages to show goodwill and speed up the process of reaching a comprehensive agreement to end the conflict with Israel.
"Core issues are still being negotiated, including aid, Israel's withdrawal from Gaza and guarantees for a lasting ceasefire," Hamas added, reiterating demands that have been rejected by Israel.

Israel rejected Hamas' proposals at the latest round of talks in Qatar on July 6. According to media reports, the group wanted guarantees that a permanent ceasefire would be achieved and that Israel would withdraw from Gaza.
Hamas' statement came after Defense Minister Israel Katz announced plans to relocate the entire Gaza population into a so-called "humanitarian city" built on the ruins of Rafah in the southern strip. The city, Katz said, would be protected from a distance by the Israeli military and run by international organizations.
Palestinians sent there will not be allowed to leave unless they “voluntarily” migrate to other countries, Katz added. Human rights activists say the city will become a concentration camp and have denounced it as a route to crimes against humanity.
Hamas had previously released about 30 Israeli hostages as part of a temporary ceasefire, but the deal was broken in late March 2025 when Israel resumed military operations in the Gaza Strip.
