Special envoys from countries and regions attended a meeting convened by the United Nations (UN) in the Qatari capital Doha to discuss the situation in Afghanistan, chaired by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

This is the second UN meeting on Afghanistan in less than a year. The meeting is expected to last two days and discuss increasing international coordination with Afghanistan.

The UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Afghanistan, Richard Bennett, expressed hope that the Doha meeting would lay the groundwork for a series of meaningful meetings between stakeholders on the issue of ensuring the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan. The Taliban government did not send a representative to the Doha meeting at the UN invitation, citing the UN's refusal to accept conditions on aid.
