Việt NamViệt Nam10/08/2023

The National Wage Council agreed to propose a regional minimum wage increase to match reality at its meeting later this year.

The first meeting on the adjustment of the regional minimum wage in 2024 of the National Wage Council took place on August 9 and agreed that in the context of the economic downturn causing more than half a million workers to be unemployed, the Council will continue to monitor and evaluate the socio-economic situation so that at the meeting at the end of this year, it will propose a specific increase in the regional minimum wage in accordance with reality.

At the meeting, union representatives proposed an increase of about 6%, meaning an increase in the regional minimum wage from 195,000 - 280,000 VND next year.

Agreeing to increase wages is necessary, but business representatives said that adjusting immediately is not possible, and that further negotiations are needed in the future.

At present, businesses are trying to find orders and keeping jobs for new workers is urgent.
