According to the Hanoi Statistics Office, in the first months of 2025, industrial production activities were affected by political fluctuations in the world, especially in the second quarter, when the adjustment of US tariff policies caused certain difficulties for processing and manufacturing enterprises.
The industrial production index in June 2025 is estimated to increase by 5.1% over the previous month and by 7.9% over the same period in 2024.

It is estimated that in the second quarter of 2025, the industrial production index (IIP) will increase by 7.3% over the same period last year; of which the processing and manufacturing industry will increase by 7.5%; electricity production and distribution will increase by 4.9%; water supply, waste and wastewater treatment will increase by 8.7%; and mining will decrease by 7.1%.
In the first 6 months of 2025, the IIP index increased by 5.9% over the same period in 2024, of which the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 6.1%; electricity production and distribution increased by 4.8%; water supply and waste and wastewater treatment increased by 6%; mining decreased by 5.8%.
In the past 6 months, some processing and manufacturing industries had IIP index increase compared to the same period last year such as: Machinery and equipment production increased by 23.7%; non-metallic mineral product production increased by 16.9%; motor vehicle production increased by 14.8%; leather and related products production increased by 11.4%; textile increased by 11.1%; metal production increased by 9.6%; garment production increased by 9.3%; electronic products, computers and optical products production increased by 7.7%.
Meanwhile, 3/23 manufacturing and processing industries had IIP index decrease compared to the same period: paper and paper products production decreased by 3.6%; electrical equipment production decreased by 3.1%; and means of transport production decreased by 0.2%.
Also according to the Hanoi Statistics Office, the consumption index of products of the entire processing and manufacturing industry in June increased by 1.4% over the same period in 2024.
In the first 6 months of the year, the product consumption index increased by 2.3% compared to the same period last year. In particular, some manufacturing industries had increased consumption indexes such as: Machinery and equipment increased by 24.3%; metal increased by 23%; textile increased by 10.4%; leather and related products increased by 9.1%...
Some industries with a decrease in consumption index include: Means of transport decreased by 18.8%; drugs and pharmaceuticals decreased by 15.7%; paper and paper products decreased by 10.6%; metal products decreased by 5.5%; printing and copying records decreased by 4.9%; electrical equipment decreased by 4.1%.
The inventory index of the processing and manufacturing industry is estimated to decrease by 21.5% at the end of June 2025 compared to the end of June 2024.
Some industries with inventory indexes decreasing sharply compared to the same period are drugs and medicinal materials down 65.6%; rubber and plastic products down 60.8%; textile products down 36.8%; chemicals and chemical products down 26.7%; metals down 26.1%; motor vehicles down 22.2%.
On the contrary, some industries had increased inventory indexes such as: Processed food increased by 84.5%; leather and related products increased by 45.3%; tobacco increased by 35%; beverages increased by 30%; wood processing and wood products increased by 28.2%.
The number of workers working in industrial enterprises is estimated to increase by 0.9% by the end of June 2025 compared to the end of the previous month and increase by 0.3% by the same period in 2024.
In the first 6 months of 2025, the labor utilization index of industrial enterprises decreased by 0.1% compared to the same period in 2024. Of which, the number of employees working in the non-state sector decreased by 3.4%; the state sector decreased by 1.3%; and enterprises in the foreign-invested sector increased by 2.5%.
By economic sector, the number of workers in the processing and manufacturing industry and the electricity and gas production and distribution industry is equivalent to the same period in 2024; the water supply and waste and wastewater treatment industry increased by 2.6%; the mining industry decreased by 31.5%.
