Silent work

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Dang Ninh has served in the Army for nearly 20 years. Graduating from the Military Technical Academy in 2009, he was assigned to the Dalat Map Enterprise before taking up his current position. His job often requires him to work away from home, flying to take photos to create maps, build terrain databases, and support disaster response and search and rescue.

Sharing memories of a working trip, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Dang Ninh said that in 2022, he and his working group were assigned to take photos using drones to create maps to serve disaster response and search and rescue work in Thua Thien Hue province (now Hue city). The area bordering Laos has rugged terrain, high mountains, and fog, while the huge amount of work required completion before the rainy season. However, it rained continuously and was covered in thick fog, causing great disadvantages for flying to take photos. After half a month of patiently waiting, the weather improved, but a new problem arose: The large difference in altitude from the original take-off point in Ka Kou village to Hong Van peak caused the aircraft to consume a lot of battery, shortening the effective flight time. The project could take 1-2 months, not guaranteed progress. With creativity and determination, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Dang Ninh came up with a solution to renovate the landing site. Every day, he and his teammates carried equipment, climbed halfway up the mountain next to him, and renovated the new landing site to reduce the altitude difference from 600m to 250m. After only 4 days, with favorable weather, the team completed 1/3 of the work. The next 4 consecutive days, the work went smoothly. When the last flight landed, with full data, the whole team burst into joy.

With a sense of responsibility and solid expertise, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Dang Ninh has achieved many proud achievements. From 2015 to 2020, he was continuously awarded the title of Emulation Fighter at the groundswell level, and received many certificates of merit from the Minister of National Defense , the Director of the General Department of Politics, and the Chief of the General Staff.

Family is the support

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Dang Ninh has a solid rear built from a beautiful love that has lasted over the years. Tran Dang Ninh and Vu Thuy Dung were classmates in the same Physics class at Hoang Van Thu High School for the Gifted (Hoa Binh province, now Phu Tho province). Their simple student friendship fuels their pure first love and motivates them to progress together. Tran Dang Ninh soon pursued his dream of joining the military and passed the entrance exam to the Military Technical Academy. Thuy Dung won third prize in the national Physics competition and was admitted directly to the Banking Academy.

Their love was tested by the months of separation. In 2009, after graduating, Ninh was assigned to work in Da Lat. Although the long-distance relationship and independent life were difficult and tiring, Dung never complained or advised him to change careers, but always encouraged and cheered him on to have confidence in the path he had chosen.

In 2011, their love "blossomed" with a simple, cozy wedding. However, their newlywed life was still the days of "Cowherd and Weaver Girl": Dung still lived in Hanoi, while Ninh continued to work in Da Lat. Both of their monthly salaries were saved to buy train tickets for their rare trips to visit each other. In 2013, Ninh was transferred to Hanoi. His job required him to travel far from home on business trips, but he was always assured of his wife's resourcefulness and thoughtfulness. She was also an excellent officer at the bank branch where she worked, and for many years was awarded the title of Emulation Fighter at the groundswell level, and the title "Good at national affairs, good at housework".

Talking about his family, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Dang Ninh proudly mentioned his son Tran Minh Khang, a student in Class 5A2, Nguyen Du Primary School (Hanoi). In the condition that his father often goes on business trips away from home, his mother works in the banking industry, has a lot of pressure at work, and often comes home late, Minh Khang is very conscious of sharing the family chores such as cooking, washing dishes, cleaning the house, and tutoring his younger brother. Once, when listening to his parents talking about cyber attacks that caused great damage to the banking industry, the 3rd grade boy innocently said: "I want to protect my mother!". Mr. Ninh replied: "Then I have to know how to program!". From then on, Minh Khang started learning programming and quickly showed his talent. In the 2023-2024 school year, in his first participation in the HKICO International Informatics Olympiad, Minh Khang won 2 gold medals in the national and international rounds. Minh Khang also won many high prizes at English competitions at all levels in Hanoi and was in the top 10 best candidates in the qualifying round of the International Young Informatics Talent Competition in Hanoi.
