According to Colonel Pham Quang Chien, Director of the Military Technical Institute, starting with the TS500CV Ship, up to now, the Military Technical Institute has enough capacity to design most of the military support ships for the Ministry of National Defense and many economic with modern features and high technology. This is a breakthrough development of the Institute, demonstrating innovative and creative thinking in development orientation in response to the requirements of building a modern and dual-use defense industry. As a leading research and design facility in the field of military shipbuilding, the Military Technical Institute quickly grasps new achievements in science and technology, promotes investment in infrastructure systems, improves professional qualifications for research staff, creating a breakthrough development in both organizational scale, research and design capacity, and mastery of many specific and new technologies.
Officers and researchers of the Military Ship Design Institute (General Department of Defense Industry) discuss ship design plans. |
Military ships in general, warships in particular, have a completely different design, manufacturing and construction process compared to economic ships and civilian ships. To form optimal designs, ensuring technical and tactical features are problems for the staff and engineers of the Institute. Mastering specialized design software, such as: Aveva Marine, Fine Marine, NavCad... helps the research staff quickly calculate data on ship features such as: Speed, angle of inclination, turning radius, forward and backward glide distance... In particular, implementing specialization in the direction of establishing a centralized design team, selecting qualified staff from specialized departments as the core, promoting collective intelligence, the Institute has gradually solved many problems in product design, especially calculating stable operation capacity, arrangement and integration on ships.
Multi-purpose landing ship, tanker or 550-ton landing transport ship (VDB-550) capable of carrying heavy combat vehicles such as tanks, armored vehicles... affirms the design capacity of the staff of the Military Technical Institute. Not only stopping at design, the Institute also participates in the process of forming ship models, from consulting on project establishment, project planning, construction design, construction supervision to document compilation and technical assurance; is the center connecting investors and construction factories. The results of participating in the implementation of shipbuilding projects in the whole army in the past time have affirmed the technical design and construction design capacity of the Military Technical Institute, creating the premise for implementing the next major projects.
Colonel Le Anh Tuan, Party Secretary, Political Commissar of the Military Technical Institute, said: Military ship design is a multidisciplinary field of science such as mechanics, electricity, weapons, automation, etc. Therefore, the problem of building high-quality human resources plays a particularly important role. With the goal of building a team of cadres with a reasonable structure, synchronous in terms of majors, standardized in terms of professional qualifications, the unit has implemented a variety of training and fostering forms; rotating cadres for training, postgraduate studies, and graduate studies at home and abroad, especially in specialized, specific majors, suitable for the functions and development orientation. At the same time, it regularly organizes seminars, fosters, updates professional knowledge, and disseminates experience in ship design and equipment on ships. In particular, in recent years, the Institute has sent many cadres to practice at factories and participate in domestic shipbuilding projects; attend international exhibitions; survey, negotiate, and receive foreign technology transfer in a number of specialized areas in warship design. These are the “nuclei” that play a pivotal role in undertaking difficult and key tasks of the unit.
Along with building high-quality human resources, the Institute actively consults on investment in upgrading infrastructure, equipment, and ship design software in a modern direction, creating a foundation to improve research and design capacity. Up to now, the unit has implemented many investment projects, creating breakthroughs in technical infrastructure and equipment; build a testing workshop with a full system of mechanical processing machinery; machines and equipment for measuring strength, material hardness, ultrasonic welding defects, testing the quality of weapons and equipment... ensuring measurement and testing in 5 inspection areas and 11 testing areas. With solid premises in terms of human resources and infrastructure, up to now, the Institute of Military Design and Construction has basically mastered the design of auxiliary ships in the entire army, gradually moving towards mastering the design of combat ships.
According to Colonel Le Anh Tuan, in the coming time, the Institute will focus on making a breakthrough in "improving the capacity of research, design, and system integration on combat ships", aiming to design modern warships and auxiliary ships in accordance with the equipment planning of the Army, serving the people according to the requirements of the domestic and international markets; proposes to open new scientific and technological topics and tasks with high applicability; promote research on integrating weapons and equipment on ships and participate in receiving technology transfer of some new ship systems...
